My piggies live together very happily however during floor time and after floor time my Little pig Gizmo humps my bigger pig Grissom, anyway they are usually okay, but today Gizmo caught Grissom unaware and Grissom fell slightly on one side and as a result is limping and lying down on one side all the time, I have checked his foot and leg and they both look and feel ok and he doesnt squeak or anything when I touch the sore leg, so I am going to keep an eye on him and if he does not get any better I will take him to the vet.

However I did not think it would be a good thing for Grissom to be jumped on by Gizmo every 10 minutes with a sore leg, so I have split the cage in half and put one pig in each side. Gizmo is now trying to chew threw the divider (which is just like c & c cubes) and squeaking as if he is really upset, I tried putting them back together but the first thing Gizmo did was jump on Grissom and I do no want Grissom to become hurt even more. So I have separated them again, however Gizmo is going at the divider again.

I feel really guilty as Gizmo looks so upset, but I think I have done the right thing. What do you all think. Opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks and sorry if it sounds silly, but I get upset easily :embarassed:

It sounds ok - perhaps a wire seperator may be better so he can 'see' his friend? I think thats why he is upset - its more frustration.....poor thing :( he needs to rest that leg but sounds like he is so frisky he will end up hurting himself ...perhaps he needs an op? :D

I think you've done the right thing :) Grissom needs to rest that leg :)
When I seperated my pigs I divided theircagein half with C+C cubes too... and they chew at it and try to pull it :-\ but then they gave up and lay next to eachother :smitten:
I'm sure Gizmo will settle the chewing down soon... :)

i think you have done the right thing hope grissom is okay

you have done the right thing,Get them out together on your lap so if he gets on top you can take him off 0:)

I think what you have done makes sense especially after the injury. Just bear in mind you will have to introduce them as if they were strangers when you put them back together to reduce the risk of a problem when they are reintroduced. ;)

Are they both neutered? If not, get them done, that should stop the humping and there will be no need to seperate them

Yep totally agree, we had to separate our boys, so when ever we had play time i always supervised as we'd have the brrr rumbles etc... mind you as they got older they couldn't be bothered, went straight for the food instead ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D
