Have I taken her to the vets for nothing?

This morning my guinea pig Bindy was making funny noises. It wasn't like teeth chattering, it sounded more like it was coming from the chest. A kind of rasping noise like she was having trouble breathing so I whipped her up to the vets and she gets an antibiotic injection and some pain killer. The vet said she isn't an expert on Guinea pigs so checked it with another vet and they agreed it was the best course of action, as they had checked the teeth and they were fine, as well as the heart etc. and couldn't find anything. The vet thought she might be grinding her back teeth due to pain possibly but wasn't sure.
So I get her back and she seems absolutely fine, she's as happy as and eating up a storm, Now I feel bad for putting her through the thermometer up the butt and the injection that hurt a bit, as well as the stress of it all.
I'm wondering if I really need to give her the painkillers and the antibiotics anymore.
My question is, Do your guinea pigs make unfamiliar noises, is it normal?. Do you think I should give the antibiotic and painkillers when there is no noise now and she looks fine?

I don’t think it was for nothing. If you’d said to us that you’d heard a noise then the first thing we would have said is to go to a vet. Guinea pigs are very good at hiding illnesses and sometimes at the start of an issue symptoms are unclear and inconsistent
If she is in pain and has now had a pain killer then it stands to reason that she would perk up. I would complete the course as prescribed and see how she is during and after the course.

I agree. I don’t believe we ever take our pets to the vets for nothing. You heard a noise that didn’t sound right and took her straight to the vet. Whatever it is, you could have nipped it in the bud before it became serious by your quickness in getting her to the vets.

I would continue with the medication of prescribed and see how she is during and after x

You’ve done the right thing x Sometimes they get a little hay stuck and can make a funny whispy noise, it lasts a couple of hours then it’s gone. this has happened to mine on a couple of occasions

Vets visits are never for nothing even simple reassurance is worth the visit. I would continue with the meds as instructed and see how she is after. Hopefully it was just something of nothing

My girl Bindy is amazing! I got her from Auckland Cavy care, a guinea pig rescue and she is so trusting that she is taking her medication so easily, its not stressing her out at all which amazes me, even my cats or dogs wouldn't take it like this. She just opens her little mouth and yum yum yum licks it all up without any problems at all. I cant believe how easy it is. Nothing I hate more than giving medication if it is stressing my animals out. But this is a breeze.
Anyway she is looking great and it has been a good lesson for me on giving meds to such little animals. I was quite anxious about it and I am getting more confident with experience.

Glad Bindy is being good about her meds.
There is no such thing a wasted vet visit.

I remember taking Merab to the vet because she was making strange noises and the vet couldn’t find anything wrong. I’m fairly sure she was swearing at the vet when she had a thermometer stuck up her bum.
As soon as we got home she stopped the strange noises.
These piggies are sent to try us but we wouldn’t be without them
