I had adopted a pair of baby girl guinea pigs two weeks ago, and one of them died a few days past.

I'm very fond of animals and had adopted these girls for therapeutic reasons, as I struggle with certain things. But I feel like I'm not cut out for this, and that it may be better to return the remaining guinea pig I have. Earlier in the year I had a pair of rats die as well, and I'm having a really hard time with this.

On the one hand, returning the pig could be cruel in how she'd be ripped away from the place she's gotten used to in addition to losing her sister, but I don't trust that I'm able to give her the best care I can.

have you any good guinea pig rescues near you ?this maybe an option rather than taking back to the shop.I'm sorry you have had early deaths.Rescues are best as will not send or put of for adoption that is not fit to rehome.
🙂

I am so sorry for your loss.
You need to do what is best for both of you. If you are worrying about this constantly, then that won’t be good for you. It is hard to deal with the loss of pets even harder when it happens suddenly. Do you have someone you can talk to? We are always here to help, of course.
It sounds as if you’ve had several losses in a fairly short space of time. You are bound to feel fragile about this, but I am sure you can give her the best she needs - you sound like you are very caring.
For her to be happy long term, she needs to live with another piggy. If you feel you can’t get another piggy for her to live, then surrendering her to a rescue would be best for her. But again, that’s another difficult decision to have to make.
Take some time over your decision though, if your other piggy passed very recently then don’t rush your decision while you are in these very new stages of grief.
Keep talking to us.
