I am hoping to go away for the night on 2nd Jan and am wondering how many times my pigs will need checking on? I will be going the Sat morning and probably arriving home mid afternoon on the Sunday.

Will they need checking on in that time? I could ask my sister but can't expect her to give them 2 veggies each day.

Any tips!? :)

hey,
I would feed them there veg on saturday before you leave and give them extra top up of pellets/hay and water, dont overdo the veg just usual amount, then get your sister to come over on sunday morning to do veg, water changes and pellet and hay top ups,its only one visit then and the pigs will be fine, goodluck and enjoy your trip away xxxxx

P.S i always find it helpful to have a designated shelf so you can tell your sister exactly what shelf she can feed them from so they dont get any unsafe foods, leaving a list to help her with instructions is a good idea too as well as all contact numbers x

Hi,

Thank you!

I was thinking of making a dish up and putting it in the fridge so she doesn't have to prepare anything, I can just leave the rest of the things under the cage to make it easy. I have even offered £5 for her troubles! :(|)

That sounds like an even better idea,I'm pedantic about veg lol,i know i wont eat it unless its just been cut lol so i like the pigs to be the same,i never actually thought of pre cutting but i know alot of people do it and it works great;)

I have asked her to come the Sat afternoon/night as I would have to check out at 11am on the Sunday and am only going to be about an hour away on the train anyway, just wanting a little romantic break! xoxo

They won't have to wait too long on the Sunday, as long as I know they are ok for the long stretch on Saturday!

Edit, actually just thought, I would only be able to check in at 2pm Sat afternoon so if I fed them first thing on Sat, then just before I go say just after lunch, would that suffice or are they best still being checked on later on Sat?

I would have them checked on Saturday evening, so they can get some fresh food in that time and have hay, peelet and water topped up.

When we are away for a weekend, I cut any fresh veg and put it in labelled ice cream boxes in the fridge for my neighbour to give, so it's no work for her and my piggies are getting exactly what I want them to have at any serving!

I would have asked my neighbours but I don't like them all that much, my sis is 10 mins away. She told me to let her know near the time if it is definate. BF hasn't said yes yet but I won't let him get out of it! :<>

Yes, I will just leave a dish of veg in the fridge and a handful of hay in a bag. I may leave 2 dishes of nuggets cos I know they won't get through them all in 2 days anyway.

Thanks for your help! Let's just hope my weekend away happens! lol :...:(|)
