I'm having a terrible day today. This morning, Elphie died, and she hung on for so long it was heartbreaking.

Just now, I have returned from an emergency vet visit with her companion, Glinda. We were trying to introduce some potential candidates for a new group for her, and no sooner had they been put together (on neutral ground), Rose lunged at her and there was blood pouring from Glinda's mouth. I've never seen a full blown attack, only the early rumblings where I've quickly intervened. It happened so fast, and there was so much blood. Both my Dad and I are covered, and the amount of tissue we went through...

Glinda is recovering well though, and Rose is definitely not companion material.

The wound was to the side of her mouth and doesn't need stitches, just cleaned. She has metacam and Zithromax, and has another appointment booked next week to check her over. She was in a bit of shock at first but seems back to normal now. I, on the other hand, need a lie down.

So sorry you lost Elphie and your other girls didn't get on. Hope Glinda recovers quickly, and you do too, what a nasty shock.

So sorry you have had a rotten time and that you lost Elphie. I have not seen a full on bite that bleeds either so would have bee just as devastated as you. Hope the wound heals ok. Piggies eh.........constant source of worry when they have mishaps. Sending hugs your way.

sorry for your loss... what a day for you... Hope tomorrow is much better x

Oh no, that's not what you need right now! xx

I'm so sorry for you but please don't blame yourself. You were trying to do what was best for your bereaved piggy but sadly it didn't work but as you did it properly you were able to separate them before it got any worse. I've had similar when I tried to bond my sows with poor Mr Ted after the death of Mrs Fudge. Violet (my smallest pig) flew across the bonding pen at him and they were locked in a rolling, gnashing fur ball which was terrifying. Such a shock but just goes to show that like humans they can take an immediate dislike to others. It's heartbreaking for you as you've lost one piggy and your attempt to improve the life of the remaining piggy has gone wrong. Big hugs.
