Ok, so... I've seen a post similar to my situation already... My Kai is almost a year.... Unfortunately, we lost his cagemate about two weeks ago, so I gave him time to mourn figuring it would be best for him before getting him a new friend, he still seems ok; still eating and running round etc but I don't wanna leave him on his own for too long being that he is still quite young himself.. I'd been looking up local rescues and such for ones suitable to re-home with him, and also went into my local pets at home and spoke to a woman in there.... Now, my local (I don't know if they're all like this) the guinea pigs are normally separated.one side for the boys; the other for girls.. now this woman told me that all the pigs they had on both sides were all boys (without checking) NEVER BEFORE HAS IT BEEN THERE WAS NO BABY SOWS.... I then explained my situation to her, saying about the loss of my piggy and that I need a baby that has a submissive personality... She then proceeded to advise against putting a baby in with an older pig and said it would be better to get one closer to Kai's age..... It's safe to say I left rather angry because everyone who I have spoken to before and since who have had GP's have said the same about it being easier to bond a baby with an older pig due to it being perceived of less of a threat.... O.o

Sorry about the rant I just needed to let off some steam 😁

Baby pigs are usually advised for an older boar, as they are easier to bond, so that information is correct. I have sows and have had trouble finding a suitable pair in the past; boars do seem to be more readily available generally speaking. Have you looked at the Rescue Locator on the top green bar for recommended rescues? All the piggies there will have been sexed correctly, quarantined and healthy - and some rescues will also offer boar dating subject to space and time.

Age doesn’t completely matter when it comes to a bond, it’s about character but it is correct that a baby is often a good choice to pair with an older pig.
It’s also useful if you have a teenage boar to then have a younger baby because they aren’t at the same stage in their hormones ie your boar can be out of the worst of it before baby starts getting hormonal so there is only one lot of hormones to deal with.
