Has anyone experienced alergic reactions to hay ?several times throughout the day l put my hand into a bag of alfafa king thimathy hay and put a helping of Thimathy in each cage !
I have knoticed that the thumb of my left hand has broken out in itchy little lumps!

Anyone experienced this?

Oooo nasty! I have hay fever all year round as I am allergic to practically everything! I even have to be careful about deodorant and my husband's shaving foam otherwise I have a massive sneezing fit! But I don't have problems touching hay. Poor you. Have you tried putting on gloves when you touch the hay?

I get the itchy bumps all over the backs of my hands too. I'm not sure if it's the pigs or hay that causes it as it's not an instant reaction. I take allergy tablets now and use Aloe Vera if it gets to the point where I just have to scratch.

I get the same, I have to wear gloves and a mask to clean our lot out! Its usually readigrass and timothy that I get skin reactions to so I mainly use meadow and cereal hay. With the other 2 I get pretty large, itchy welts come up on my hands!

I tried taking Piriton/Piriteze but it made me really spaced out. According to the chemist it does that to a lot of people.

So I'm trying Loratadine. 11 days in and all good so far.

I have hay fever so tend to be a bit sniffly all year round. Most of the time it is okay, when the irritation is bad I take acrivastine (Benadryl) which seems to work for me.

I've never had a problem with itchy bumps on my hands from the hay. Once though I bought a big bag of Oxbow timothy hay, but the minute I opened it I could feel my eyes and nose etc irritating really badly. Eventually it was almost like having asthma, my breathing was so restricted and wheezy - not pleasant at all. After a couple of days I stopped using the bag, in the end I gave it to a rescue to use. I don't know what it was about that bag, maybe the hay had some chemical spray on it.

Have you tried anti-histamine insect-bite/sting cream to ease the itching?

I have hayfever, and allergies to furry animals!
If i hang around too much around my boys for ages and hay, i get itchy eyes, throat, hives, itchy nose.

Timothy Hay brings on my OH's asthma so I only feed it when the piggys are in the outside runs. He's OK with meadow hay!
