Obviously hay should always be unlimited but we bought some Rosewood hay cookies today that said on the box "our pets need about 70g of hay per kilo of body weight per day". It seemed to be implying you could meet that with hay cookies which I dont believe at all because half the fun is spreading it on the floor but... it made me want to do some calculations about hay use and we feed about 20kg of hay per month to 8 piggies (8kg timothy and 12kg meadow) which works out about 80g hay per piggy per kilo of body weight per day, not counting hay snacks like hay cubes and readigrass and the recently discovered hay cookies which are very popular! I've never actually measured this, I just throw a few big handfuls of hay in the cage 2 or 3 times a day, and they never run out...
How much does anyone else feed, if you've ever bothered to think about it?

Just done some very rough calculations and I think I get through about 140g per pig per day, but I use it as bedding under their hides as well as food. No idea how much they actually eat!

My maths is shocking, so I don't plan on calculating it 😂 but I buy 10kg of hay and that does my 11 for 2 weeks, but I also use it as bedding. They get through a pile twice their size each day though, whatever that weighs!

Yes I've never really thought about it before either, I just fill up with big piles of meadow hay in the hay room and hay loft on cage clean days twice a week, and also when we do the daily corner hay tray/toilet cleans, then I chuck big handfuls of timothy hay in all the hay places after breakfast and dinner, and if it looks a bit sparse or they start wheeking I chuck in some more!

I feed a fresh pile of hay, morning, early evening and late evening. I fill two garden waste wheelie bin every fortnite. But this does include base layer hay

I go by endless hay amount with refills several times a day.
Mine get hay in their hay trays where they pee and poo also so I do end up throwing away some hay. I don’t expect them to eat everything after they peed and pooped on it.
My Finn and Lara each have a big hay tray in their own cages. They have separate cages.

I think I feed about 90-100g per pig per day, which works out as about 100g per kg. But I end up throwing a lot of that away, I reckon less than half is actually eaten despite me putting piles of fresh in 3 places twice a day.

I've never thought about how much hay I put in the hutch. My piggies just have access to it 24/7. They have incontipet pee pads and then a generous layer of hay on the top and a hay tray at all times except when they are out on the grass. I get through a big farm bale of hay every 4 -5 weeks. My piggies are healthy so they must be eating enough.
