Hi everyone,

I have hay and newspaper in the hayloft area of my pig pen and change this every two days - is this acceptable to do for their main living area (4ftx2ft) ? i only ask as they dont tend to wee or poop much in the hayloft but do a fair bit downstairs... just a bit concerned about them eating manky hay..

Thanks very much

Personally, I find that peed on hay goes sludgy and stinky very quickly; newspaper isn't very good at soaking up pee.

i use hay and newspaper, but only put hay in their sleeping boxes, and change the hay daily, clean thoroughly every three days, yes they do wee on their hay in their bed, but i have discovered if i put in an area of shredded newspaper in a corner, they use that to wee and poop in as well. i also use a hay rack. hth

I have newspaper in the bottom of a cage base they use for eating hay and sleeping in, it has one third carefresh (at one end) and two thirds hay on top of the newspaper. (My piggies run free around the conservatory, the rest of their food and water is elsewhere)

I change the whole thing every two days, unless there is a problem with one of the piggies. It works well. There are four piggies.

Hi i change any area that is damp twice a day....... i have an upstairs / mezzanine area too, they tend to mainly do wee's at night time up there. Downstairs main area i have to change twice a day as i don't want it smelling either :)>>>
