Any members live in Leeds & know where to get nice quality bales of hay from?

The farm shop i usually go to has just sold me another bale which is full of thistles :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

They won't take it back & are now saying "it's hit & miss wether you get thistles or not" This is rubbish as i've had some lovely bales from them in the past. I found out about this place by word of mouth & now need to find a new supplier asap

Hi,

I live not far from Leeds and have had similar problems. In the first instance I asked a farmer whether I could gather hay from his field myself, by picking up the left over from baling (got about 20 bags) and have now had to go onto Lunnun Dust Free. If you pm me I can give you details of the hay merchant I had been using, but I was not happy with the mould content.

It has been a bad year for hay.

Hope this helps

Hi LJ,

Do you get a full bale? I am currently getting a large bale for £6.00 and it is dusty. I only use it for bedding so would like to find an alternative. :)

That's the size I get too Niki. Although with no backgate I have to bring it through the house and it is sooo messy. At £7.99 this seems a fair price to pay as it includes delievery too!

Will order some when I need it! My bale does smell a bit and I end up flapping strands all around the place getting the dust out!

well they where saying the Hay was going to be terrible this year with the weather.I have 20 bales left here from the start of the summer and I went to see some yesterday. It was fantastic sweet medow hay at £2 a bale so I have orderd 200 bales

That's cheap Graham! Yeah it's like the veg, the broccoli and cabbage has been terrible this year and we got no spuds from our garden as they all went to mush!

I use hay from www.dustfreehay.co.uk too and it is beautiful, quick delivery too, sometimes next day!

How big are the normal sized bales? The bales i buy are approx 3ft x 18" & last my 13 piggies approx 6 wks using it for eating & bedding.

I am not sure Niki, I get the 10 compressed bales for £40, it lasts me about 10 weeks for 7 piggies. It is pricier than others I have used but lovely and green and fresh and it doesn`t make me sneeze like the other hays did. Piggies love it too :)

I think I'll give it a go. I don't use that much hay as I'm using Megazorb its just for the sleeping corner. It seems so much cleaner then what I'm using at the mo!

Will order some when all this Hay has gone, saying that I've still got lots left! :D

Thank you :) unfortunately £40 for hay to last me approx 5 wks is too steep for me :(

I can definitely recommend the dust free hay co.

Received mine and it's worth the extra money, especially throughout the winter when grass has little feed value.

Also ordered some straw for my chickens, that's great too.

If anyone is looking for hay supplies I would recommend the adtrader equestrian section or a local livery yard, we get ours from the yard where our horse is kept and it is £4 a bale for really soft lovely hay and £2.80 for more crunchy hay needless to say our guineas get the £4 hay it is lovely!

I found mine in the adtrader Paper aswell

I rang 10 farms today, 1 sold bales but didn't have any this year the rest didn't sell it. :(
I did find a farm shop near the airport that sold 1/2 bales @ £3.50 each. It's lovely sweet smelling soft green hay & i bought the last 5 1/2 bales they had - i am now overflowing with hay & the piggies are loving it :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
