I've been looking at changing my bedding from vetbed to newspaper, Puppypads and then hay on top.
I've looked at the Hay for pets web site can anyone who uses this hay can they recomend which hay is the favourite for their piggies as I dont want to buy a huge bag and then they turn their noses up.
Also what is the best size to buy I will be changing it all every 3 days.
Thanks

Have you got a "range" nearby you? If so, they do huge bales of hay for £3.99 a bag, ideal for using as bedding and changing every 3 days as its so cheap, my piggies love it too. Remember to always make sure they have a fresh handful of actual eating hay though, they wont eat what they have wee'd, poo'd and walked all over! x

haha you need to tell my girly twirly ... she wont eat anything she hasnt walked and pooped on! She will not eat from a hay rack ever it has to be on the floor and trampled on ... odd girl!

I havent tried the range hay but thats because I ordered a 14kg bale of vilmie mountain meadow hay for £14.99 from zooplus and its well going to last quite a while!

Car is fixed now though so I can pop up to the range to try some when this bale is nearly gone:D

Hi, I've just ordered a combination of hay for piggys and straw for chickens as its a very good price for beddng hay. Many thanks for the link.

Hi Claire I just wanted to say I am really pleased with the hay and straw from naturesown as my piggies love the hay and my chickens love the straw in their nest boxes

Help a newbie please! Hay - are there different ones for bedding / eating? Is the naturesown one good enough for eating? New to little piggies and trying to get organised :)

Hello! I'm new too but have read quite a lot about hays. Yes it's fine for eating and bedding and its a great deal as I got 3 large bags of hay and 2 of straw for £19.99. I also feed mine the really green hay which they adore but it is £7.99 for 1.8kg so quite expensive

Hi Mizzpigz, thanks for the info! Had come accross the green stuff, so wasn't sure if that was the only one they should eat and if the other was for bedding. Will give the green one a try as a treat too I think.

Funnily enough they prefer the cheaper hay from natures own. The greener hay I got is Timothy hay from alfalfa king. I got it from pets Mary but yes I only give a small handful of that a day so they have a choice.

Most websites that supply hay such as 'Hay for Pets' and 'Willow Warren' provide sample packs for free (you have to pay for delivery). I've bought the Hay for Pets sample pack and they provide three small bags of their different hays (Ings, Timothy & Rye and Meadow). So give one of those a go if you don't want to commit to buying a big bag. :)
