Hi! I usually buy timothy hay from pets at home, tonight they didn't have any so I had to settle for "hay" which looks rather sad and short cuts rather than strands. I have 3 piggies and I give them a pile of hay a day, whatever is left at the end of the day I throw away and replace. Does anyone leave the hay in day after day, topping it up and just cleaning the droppings? I am thinking of haybox, but I am not sure if I can sustain 4 or more boxes a month.

Yes I do but wet hay is removed every day. My piggies live in a hutch (in my shed) so are fully bedded on hay. Each day I remove the wet areas (there tends to be just two areas mostly) but the rest of the hay elsewhere is left in. I shuffle it around and top up what I have removed, the whole hutch is fully emptied around every 5 days.

I use haybox and can well recommend it for great quality. I use 4 boxes a month. I have two rabbits who live in a very large enclosure but which contains a 6ft hutch which is bedded with hay and currently two piggies - soon to be four piggies, who both also have 6ft hutches so it’ll go up.

Thank you, I think I will try it. My piggies live inside on fleece so I am hoping I won't use 4 boxes 🤞

I sort of scrap any dry stuff off the top and take away the bottom, so that what was the top is now the bottom and then fresh hay on top! We get through an 8.5kg box about every 8-9 weeks for my two boys.
My boys are also inside on fleece and have a big pile of hay ☺️

I throw out hay during cleaning because I figure it wasn't delicious enough for them. My boys are indoor piggies so I check on them multiple times daily.
My boys get both Timothy and Orchard hay from Oxbow. I put Timothy hay with their paper bedding in the hay tray/bathroom, and hang the Orchard hay so they can get fresh hay. Timothy hay from Oxbow is a bit rough and short compared to the Orchard hay, which is softer and longer and can be hung inside toy metal balls.
