Hi I have very slowly been extending the boys grass time over the past 6 weeks or so and I'm now at the stage where they are out long enough (2 -3 hours) that I'm wondering if they need hay outside too.

Their outdoor pen is moved so that they have enough fresh grass and they have unlimited hay indoors for the rest of the day. They have their dry food bowl and obviously have water - do I need to pop some hay out there too?

The RSPCA site confused me as it says grass and/or hay.

Thanks

Kate

I provide hay when my piggies are out all day, but 2-3 hours is fine without! Mine get hay first thing when back to help prevent soft poos with veg only served some hours later.

I count juicy fresh rich spring or re-growing autumn grass as half hay/half veg. Dryer summer grass is more like hay in terms of nutrition.

Brilliant thanks. They came in today to a clean cage and lots of fresh hay. They won't get more veggies now until after the kids are in bed (when they get half their veg in the morning and half at about 9pm).
