I saw the Hay for Pets website recommended on here and decided to make an order. I ordered the sample bag so I could see what my guineas preferred.

It cost £4.50, just the postage, the hay is free. A good deal!

Now I'm not sure how much hay I was expecting, but it wasn't a lot, about enough for 2 hay racks full. Which isn't a lot, I have 2 cages and I think it takes a bit longer to tell if it's being eaten any quicker or being left.

Then I noticed the actual postage paid was only £2.80. I was disappointed so emailed them for there comments. Over a week later I've had nothing!

Very disappointing, they won't be getting my custom. As I saw it on here I wanted to share my experience.

The sample bags are just to see which the piggy prefers. I order the ings hay which is £16 for 9.5 kilo and my lot love it. I am sorry you were disappointed.

Wow that is naught cheating you over the postage...that's appalling behaviour on their part. Clearly they don't know the power of the internet nor forums such as this! Frankly they should be giving you your money back besides the fact it wasn't the quality you we're looking for.

What a shame.

Well I emailed them again this morning and told them I'd posted on here, so we'll see if they've anything to say! I wouldn't have minded if they had tried to put things right!

Dindypig - I had looked at that Timothy hay website, I think it was more expensive, but you clearly only get what you pay for! I think I'll try them now.

I think Sample are just that, samples, my lot love the Ings hay and a 9.5kg bag, free delivery is great! I once tried the meadow one and they weren't too keen.

Did you contact them via website? I know they were having problems with the new site so maybe they haven't see the message, they are always great with me.

Mrs Suzy, the point is I paid £4.50 for postage, they only spent £2.80! I should have paid less or they should have sent £4.50 postage of hay!

There website is a mess! It flicks from the old to the new. My son builds websites and isn't impressed!

I'm surprised Hay for Pets didn't get back to you. I have bought from this website several times and have been happy with the service. Once, I wasn't happy with the hay and when I told them, they sent me a replacement straight away - no quibbles.

Well hopefully they will now. Perhaps it is the new website, but it's been having problems for a few weeks now, you'd think it would be sorted.

I have got to say my experience has been very positive. I ordered 2 of the samples and got a phone call from them to say as I have a boarding business that these wouldn't be enough and as I had paid £9 she said it would be better to send me 2.5kg of each of the hays. All the rabbits and guinea pigs loved them so I ordered the 9.5kg :)

They haven't redeemed themselves!

I thought after hearing good experiences on here, that I would get a reply today after my second 'grumpy' email! But no. Nothing.

Shipping costs typically include post and packaging, perhaps that's why the cost is more than just the postage.

I got the samples and found it gave me a clear idea as to which my two preferred.

The dust free hay company is another option for online ordering.

@Cookie16 I started using www.timothyhay.co.uk after a disappointing order from Hay for Pets. My first order was great but the second one wasn't and the pigs barely ate it!

Just as a warning...if you buy from timothyhay.co.uk the bag might finish quicker than expected! My boys are eating so much of it.

Not too say they are right ( they could have contacted to explain) but @Hermes makes a valid point. I sell piggy stuff via The Piggy Lounge and only recently it dawned on me that I charge for postage and the item but don't take into account all the packaging I use.

Ok, I hadn't thought of that, but 4 plastic bages don't cost nearly £2!

The point now is more that they haven't replied to either of my emails, in almost 2 weeks. I also sent one email through the old website and one through the new. Not heard a thing!

I think the cost most likely is postage and packing costs (inc time it takes to package it up etc). However it is very rude of them not to get back to you with an explaination.
