I am trying to find some hay from a local farmer, with ten piggies, i kind of need alot! So before i do is there any particular question I need to ask them. If I was getting for my bunnies for example I'd be asking if there is known mixi on the land, but just want it all to be safe.

I buy hale by the bale from my local feed supplier. I check that it's not too dusty, doesn't have lots of weeds/ thorns, and doesn't smell musty.

:)

Mine comes by the bale from the local animal feed store. They have different qualities of hay, but I get the one they call Pet Hay, it is lovely a green and they love it. £4.50 a bale. They also bag this up into smaller bags for £1.30 a bag, but you can get 15 bags from a bale.....so I buy the bale, and take along an old single duvet to put it in. xx

What a brilliant idea, thanks for the tip.
I've only just started buying by the bale. The first time we just put it in the car, took it home transfered it into 12! bin bags which filled the understairs cupboard and behind the sofa! then did some serious hoovering to get all the seeds up. Second time we learnt from our mistakes and took the bin bags with us and filled them while still on the farm, seperating it in the sections it was baled so it was still compressed and didn't take up as many bags.
A duvet cover would save a lot of bin bags and fit in the cupboard perfectly!
Excellent, I'm getting a bale tomorrow, now just have to find an old duvet cover.... :))
