So I've been looking into different types of hay so i can sort everything out before getting my guinea pigs towards the end of August (if everything goes to plan) and it seems to me that Timothy is the best choice so I've looked around and tried to find some and came up with two main results.

What I need to know is:
1 - Does the hay look okay quality?
2 - Is it an okay price for how much there is?
3 - How long would it last two - three piggies?

Hay 1: http://www.timothyhay.co.uk/collect...timothy-hay/products/2014-20kg-of-timothy-hay
:D
Hay 2: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/s...thy-hay/alfalfa-king-timothy-hay-11-36kg.html (the 11kg bale)

both those hays are excellent quality and good for the prices. i get the timothyhay.co.uk one currently and the piggies love it! i get a 10kg bale and it lasts a month ish for my two (plus one rabbit) - if you only feed it in a hayrack then it will last alot longer, but i feed hay in as many places as possible, like tunnels and tubes, so they eat loads and for added interest.

i also feed meadow hay aswell and get it from hay for pets - http://www.hay-for-pets.co.uk/ - the ings hay is the favourite with my lot. a 9.5kg bag lasts about a month ish. and again, i use alot just because they like to play and burrow in it. i add this one mainly in the litter tray (a large garden potting tray), aswell as on top of wooden toys, inside paper bags, in kitchen roll tubes cut down the centre, and in tunnels. you can never give too much hay in my opinion! :)

if you can feed both meadow and timothy, that would be even better because it's such an important part of their overall diet :) alot depends also on whether you have hay fussy piggies :))

i also get a couple of bags of other hays from hayexperts every time i do an order aswell, just for variety: https://www.thehayexperts.co.uk/

Hiya,

Hay 1 :
It is okay for quality about 6/10
The price is good
It lasts about three or more months - no kidding!

Hay 2 :
Very good quality
But quite expensive
Sorry - no ide how long that size lasts

As Flutterby has said hay 2 is great for a treat.
And as Biscandmat said maybe try a few different types of hay - timothy and meadow, possibly.

I hope this helps!

:agr: with above posters .

I like the hay from timothyhay.co.uk . It's too coarse to put down as a bedding hay but is great in a hay bag or hay manger. I particularly like it as it is grown in Britain. a lot of Timothy hay is imported from America. As I am in the UK, it is more environmentally friendly to get the British stuff.

I've just got a bag of Timothy from timothyhay.co.uk

It is coarse as @PiggyOwner said, but I don't use hay as bedding anyway, not that doesn't stop them from throwing it everywhere lol, they all seem to like it now, three of them were a bit iffy at first. Never used the other so can't say.

Thank you, are you guys all getting the 2014 batch or the 2013?

Mine didn't like the Timothy hay.co.uk and it didn't smell fresh and wasn't that green, quite green but nowhere near as good as the alfalfa king Timothy hay. If I could afford to I'd feed that but with 4 piggies it's too expensive! :/
