Hay issues

Hi
Just wondered if anyone is having issues with hay. I have just had to throw out 3 bags of hay (unopened) because it smelt musty.
I do keep my hay in a box outside that isnt sitting on the floor and in a sheltered spot. But never had this issue. Maybe the odd bag now and again. Is it because the hay when bagged was damp still because of how bad the weather has been or is it my storage?

Sorry you’ve had to dump 3 bags of hay.
I’ve had an occasional musty bag which has been binned.
I think sometimes there’s a bad batch and poor weather is a contributing factor
It may be worth letting the company you bought the hay from about the problem in case they weren’t aware of it.

I have just been looking at the date it was cut. All the musty hay was cut in October. The nice hay was june and july. So i think it is a bad batch. Yes I am going to let the company know as I never have had this amount of bad hay from them.

I store all mine in a cardboard box in the shed. Mine has been ok. Haven't had a musty bag in a while but when I did it was always the pets at home bales or supermarket ones. I don't know why, maybe it's because it's so packed? I know others get on fine with it. Could just be my sensitive nose

But I agree, contact the company. Sometimes they'll ask for a batch number and send a fresh one out to replace it.

I get my hay from the Hay and Straw Company and have only ever had one bad bag.
Their hay is usually very good
