My sow Harriet went to the vet yesterday as I noticed her intermittently head tilting and having great discomfort when the right ear was touched, immediately told me she either has an ear infection or something is stuck in there, so took her in right away.

The vet tried to remove it but it was too painful for her, so she stayed in for the evening and was given a whiff of gas sedation, unfortunately they still couldn't remove it as they didn't have tools small enough for the job. They have now decided to try flushing the ear to dislodge it, she had it done after her procedure and we took her back again today for a re-check and second flush, sadly there's no change.

We've been given the fluid to flush her ear twice a day and she will be re-checked on Monday, if no better they will call in an exotic vet with the correct tools and sedate her again.

I'm just concerned about her being sedated twice so soon between, is this okay? She's not on antibiotics but her ear is starting to produce gunk after all the poking and prodding done to it, it's probably going to end up infected soon, she also has visible bruises on her ear which tells me they may have been a bit too rough. She's being given loxicom for pain and inflammation, it is helping a great deal. She is perfectly fine in herself, acting totally normal and eating as usual etc.

Poor girl! Please be very careful when flushing; you can easily make things worse. We generally discourage members from flushing ears as it can do some real damage. Your girl may need an antibiotic as the ear will be very irritated and sensitive by now. What a bummer! :(

It is better to have her cooked into an exotics as soon as possible. There is a wide range of options with sedation - an experienced vet/aneasthetics nurse will only ever use as little as possible for a as short a time as possible.

Poor Harriet, sending her masses of healing vibes, hope this can be sorted quickly.
Very good advice from Wiebke except the cooking. A slightly unfortunate typo!
