What do you think this is? It's advertised as hay (forgive me if I'm being stupid!)
I usually get my hay from tescos, but I've just bought a bale.

This is the tesco hay:

Do the strands feel stiff, and quite hard? Sharp ends? Straw is usually much harder than hay, and is primarily yellowish in colour.

It looks like very stalky hay, when i go to the farm shop i have to ask for bales of soft hay, their other hay (i think mainly for horses etc) is coarser & has thistles etc in it

Looks like hay to be, but very thick and stalky.

Straw is much thicker and much more yellow than your pictures

Its not straw as it is too thin and the wrong colour.

I would say poor quality hay - the piggies probably won't mind it though just be careful of thistles etc.

Straw is usually thicker with blunt sharp ends which can be damaging to guinea pigs eyes and yellow in colour.

Not sure from those photos though ... it looks too green to be straw to me.

It looks like hay to me - I sometimes get that sort of hay from the pet supply store that I buy from. The stuff I've been getting just now is really short and quite rubbish. Even the Excel Herbage has been really short and just falls through the hay rack.

Take it from someone who lived around farms most of his life lol, That my dear is straw 95% with 5% mixture of grasses and weeds. My advice is do not use it, if you can help it. :)p
