Hi, please help! Photos are not very good, this is not my piggie but a rescue that i'm trying to help. She has a white dot in the middle of the eye, the dot is not big and her eye does not seem to be inflamated. Is it a hay poke or blindness? This girl rescued 15 piggies that were about to be dropped in the woods, 4 are pregnant and posibly blind. She lives in Romania, in the country side with a very difficult access to a vet (not exotic, but vet). I am trying to help with what i can as i live 100 km away and she is just 15 yo and trying to offer this piggies a new chance to life. We do not know how old the pig is or how old the injury is...

Please have her vet checked as soon as possible. Only a hands-on examination can tell you whether you are dealing with a non-ulcerating infection deeper in the eye or a congenital cataract (i.e. a genetic cataract which can in extreme cases set in before birth).
The first will require an antibiotic; the second is permanent.

I am very aware of the vet visit just i know that in her town there is no exotic vet :( only one eye is having problems, in case it was cataract shouldn't both be white?

Sorry, know nothing about eyes but good on you for helping with all those piggies x I hope you manage to find out what the problem is, a normal vet should be able to make a diagnosis, good luck x

No, not necessarily. In the majority of cases the second eye will be affected within weeks or months after the first eye but in some cases only one eye can be affected. It is important that you can exclude an infection as that could lead to the loss of the eye if left untreated.
You are doing a great job in supporting these poor piggies!
