was up emergency vets 1.30am this morning for hay poke with my dellašŸ˜” she did really well bless her, just wanted to check how long her eye is likely to be sore, its still very watery and slightly closed, shes just had her second eye drop, is this normal? I'm assuming its going to be a little sore/swollen as shes just had a huge piece of hay removed but i just want to check incase she needs another vet visit. definitely better than yesterday to which her eye was literally shut.

I’m sorry to hear that.
She should start feeling better in a few days

Is she on painkillers?
We also recommend a lubricant (to be given at a different time to antibiotic drops) as it can help with healing

she had a metacam injection i was told lasts 24 hours. we are due to pick up a script tomorrow for metacam🫣 we have some here but its past the 6 months open! by a week and 4 days, is it still safe to use as a one off or shall i try to get it from emergency vets?

what lubricant would that be? shes only on .3% Ofloxacin drops.

If she has had an injection then that will be covering her so she can’t have oral Metacam just yet anyway Get your prescription tomorrow and take it from there . (Don’t use the one you have - not only if it is out of date but you also can’t use it while she has an infection active)

I’ve linked in a thread below (to save me typing out more info) - see wiebke’s last post on the subject of eye lubricants.

Remend alternatives/eye drop recommendations?

I'm sorry i cant seem to find any recommendations on that post?

I'm going to phone our vets tomorrow as she was only prescribed ofloxacin for 3 days and everyone else's course seems a lot longer!

The length of treatment will most likely be linked to the amount of damage, she may not need longer but there is no harm in calling the vet to check.

We were at the vets a week ago for hay poke again (3rd time for Bramble!) and they prescribed a 10 day course of antibiotics drops. Got a check up on Sat to see how it is healing. Hope your piggie heals quickly!

Thanks very much, we were there on Sat and he still has a tiny pin prick size left so another 5 days of drops! He is not impressed but he only has himself to blame! Crazy boy as it is his 3rd hay poke incident!
