My girl Lottie got herself a rather nasty hay poke today, I immediately removed the stalk in her eye with tweezers and it's a pretty big one, the whole thick part of the seed was stuck in there.

I have not washed or treated the eye with anything and I don't want to, it can make it worse. I have given her some Loxicom for the pain/inflammation and I'm keeping a close watch for infection or signs it's getting worse, she will see the vet on Monday.

when it happened to me the vet on the phone recommended water+salt (4-5 times a day) and double vit C drops which I already use regularly. And it worked in few days... I did not need the vet then...
(I boied also some leaves of plantain into the water, it has antiinflammatory properties).
My piggie kept the eye a bit closed in those days but I gave her no med and she looked fine...
The only difference is that her eye was not red, only watery...

Same here. Poor Christian had his first hay poke at 7 days old! Out of the 5 of them I think only 1 hasn't had hay poke ...... yet!

Anselmo had a hay poke last year. I got the piece out and he seemed fine. I took him to the vet anyway and they dyed and examined his eye. He had an ulcer which needed antibiotic eye drops.

I always recommend a vet visit. A squinty eye suggests pain and possibly an injury.

Completely agree with this, Lottie is going to the vet tomorrow as I do believe she has an ulcer. The whole eye is covered in a blue/white film but there is a thick circular spot of this cloudiness at the site where the seed was stuck, pretty sure this is an ulcer and requires treatment from a vet like you say.
