Hello, I am new here & just looking for a piece of advice. My 2 year old GP Colin has suffered a hay poke. Took him to the vets on Saturday and again yesterday, he has been prescribed Isathal drops, Remend and metacam. His eye is changing everyday, picture one is Saturday & picture two is today (Tuesday). Does this look better or worse? I am finding it so hard to tell as it is such a horrible injury to look at but it is worrying me senseless. Thanks in advance.

Hi!

Please take a DEEP breath!

The eye is healing. The thick ulceration in the first picture is now gone. But the eye is still very sore and is likely to take another week or two until it is fully healed. Please be patient and keep on treating. It looks like the infection has penetrated further into the eye, which means that it takes more time to clear and heal.

The rehydrating remend is helping with that in combination with the antibiotic isathal. The metacam is an analgesic (painkiller and anti-inflammatory) to also help with the affected tissues and the discomfort. Your vet has prescribed the correct combination of medication.

If it is a consolation to you, I have had several pokes worse than that, and they have healed, but in some cases, it has taken its time. ;)
