Hi!

It’s starting to get cold over here in Canada and we’re wanting to make sure our boys are nice and warm in their pen at night. They’re indoor piggies with a C&C cage. They have snuggle sacks and some extra blankets on top of the fleece lining in their corner hidies where they like to sleep. They also really like their cardboard box and I read it can be stuffed with hay so they can burrow.

Does anyone know which hay is best for that purpose? I would imagine Timothy is too ‘sharp’ and has the potential for eye injuries so we’re looking for a hay which they can safely burrow in and, of course, eat!

Yes, stuffing boxes with hay is fun for them.
meadow hay is the best thing to use as it is soft. Definitely don’t use Timothy!

Meadow hay is much softer than Timothy I'd say that's pretty safe for burrowing and of course eating

Meadow hay is the favourite here for burrowing into.
There’s nothing better than snuggling into a paper bag filled with hay, or a box filled with hay.
