Ok I think I've sorted out the hutch etc for our soon to be piggies !

Just figuring out food now, my plan was to give them veggies in the morning and then in the evening clear away any remains and give them nuggests - is this ok or do they need nuggets all the time and veggies twice a day ?

I know they need hay for food and bedding - I've picked some of this up http://www.burgesspetcare.co.uk/products/guinea-pig/burgess-excel-herbage.html, which looks like posh hay ! Should I just put this in the hay rack and get another hay for the bedding area or use this for both. I was planning to oder a larger quantity of hay online once I figured out how much I needed etc

Thanks
Andrea

How exciting new piggies!
You can decide whether you give them all their veggies at once or split it. I find they want more in the evening no matter how much they have in the morning so it's easier to split it. Mine have dried food in a bowl all the time, I just don't top it up until the following day.
Hay should be unlimited, a hay rack and bedding hay is the best of both worlds, they get to sleep and play in it (whilst eating it!) and they always have some fresh (non wee'd on!) hay in their rack. Mine get the posh stuff in the rack and normal hay from the farm to lie in.
I get a bale from my local farm for £5 which lasts a month with 8 hungry pigs!

You can feed veg in as many servings as you like, as long as you stick to about 50g/1cupful per piggy per day; it is up to your own convenience.

Please check the pellet bowl regularly; some youngsters can be rather scatty and pee in the bowl. Until you know that yours don't rather give them less, but more than once a day, so you do not waste so much.

Hay for pets are an online company that has a good reputation for their hay here in Britain. If you get local hay for the underlay, make sure that it is not too dusty; it can cause sneezing and crackling breathing.
