I bought some of these hayracks:

http://www.equinecaninefeline.com/catalog/super-pet-hay-buffet-with-snap-shut-lid.html

I gave to my first set of pigs and they have been fine with them for a couple of weeks, I then gave another to my other set one evening and this is what i woke up to the next morning:

overnight they managed to chew two holes and a hole hook off it! it's just a bit worrying incase someone's pigs actually swallow some and it causes a problem.

Luckly my pigs are fine and the rack has been removed

Must add the only piece missing is the hook, i was holding the rack apart so you could see the damage. Both pigs seem fine I have kept am eye on them and they are eating fine, it was a few days ago now!

Oh dear, silly piggies. Have you e-mailed the seller? I think you can leave a product review on their website as well.

no i haven't I just blamed it on my pigs! do you think I should complain ? I bought three of these as well and am going to have to chuck them all out as you can never be too careful :(

I would certainly let them know that you had a problem. They're sold for guinea pigs and rabbits so I wouldn't expect them to be destroyed quite so quickly. Either way the seller might decide not to re-stock and if you leave a product review then buyers might choose something else. I always look at reviews if they're available to see if people have commented on quality/ durability.

I'd be tempted to e-mail and say that unfortunately these have proved unfit for purpose and include the photo. Even if you don't want to ask for a refund, I think it's worth giving feedback.

I think you should let them know, not so much to complain, but if they are unaware, they will just continue to sell them. Glad your piggies are ok!

I have e-mailed them with photos and explained nicely that they should look into the safety of the product and possibility of removing it from sale. I also asked for a refund as could do with the money as I am having to buy replacements now!

I think that's fair. Hope you get a good response. x

thanks for the warning!

Lovelygirl - I LOVE your avatar, what a great idea! :(|)

Naughty piggies eating the rack, they are a law unto themselves! rolleyes

Glad they are ok though and yes, you should mention it on a review, and send the uneaten ones back for a refund. I have a few hay racks if you want them Briony?

One is like this and the other is a smaller yellow one if you are interested. I am near you tonight too. :)

(You could even meet the boys as they are staying with my mum!) ;)

As a retailer, we'd welcome feedback from any customer who had a problem like this. Often pet supplies sellers sell thousands of products and it simply isn't possible to test them all independently. We rely on reviews from our customers to know what is a good product and what isn't, so I'd say always give feed back about your experiences, good and bad alike as it helps others benefit from your experiences.

Glad there was no harm done to your piggies and that you spotted it so quickly. Thanks for the tip!

My hay rack is metal so it's hopefully much-proof....the metal bars of the rack are the same thickness as the cage itself so I sincerely hope that they can't be chomped through!

Thanks for your kind offer, sadly i am busy tonight as have to pop out shortly but it was very nice of you!

Thank you for the warning. I am after a new hay rack as I had one of those folding metal ones but as I have a baby guinea in the hutch, I was concerned about her getting trapped in it so I have since taken it out. I shall not be purchasing one of these ones either as my girls are relentless chewers mallethead

It's ok. :)

Let me know whenever you are free because I am popping backwards and forwards there for the next month!

I saw them last night and it was soooo good to hug them, and my doggy, I miss them so. :0

it must be hard being separated from them! i'm free most of the time, except for babysitting on saturday night this week and am busy sat 17th daytime (yay going to pick up my new bunnies ! :) ) and sat 17th night having a meal with my friend my calendar is clear so let me know when it is conveint for you!

Well I will be popping over a few times during the week after work to see my loved ones ^) so I will let you know. :)

I am sure H&L won't say no to a hug! ;)

thanks I get home around 6.30 so will have to be after or around that timeif during the week.

Back to the broken hay rack topic, they haven't responded to me yet, I find that quite rude!
