I buy bales from local farms but none can supply due to a poor growing season, my job drives me round the country so if i see any I am going to buy 3 ! the winter time it will be even more scarce.

I am sorry for your problem and hope that you can find a reliable source.

You lot are so lucky! The shortage is down this way too - it's doubling in price and going to be scarce!

We camped at a hay farm earlier in the year and going back in Aug to buy a few bales from her. As many as i can fit in actually!

I will feel guilty now when i go to Steve hay store as its full he keeps alot back for his locals like me. Its a shame you lot are not closer. Good luck with finding some i know its a worry as my other supplier used to run out for months then i found farmer Steve :...

I have a feed supplier up here that is usually pretty reliable however the hay is not a lovely green so is given along with other hay. There have been rumours though that there will be shortages over the winter.

Phew ! I remembered a farm I used to go too years ago and he had some of this summers Hay so I got two bales, smells great but a little coarser than I normally use but just relieved to have found some.

Oh no Lisa! I didnt know that the hay shortage was down here too! Mind you i just bought another pack of readigrass and noticed that it isnt as green as the last one i had. Luckily i have plenty of oxbow hay and 3 large bags of bedding hay, should last me while with this warm weather i dont use much bedding hay in the loft.

Lisa, I bought mine in Caerphilly and he had plenty at £3.50 a bale.

Where in Caerphilly?

Is it okay as bedding hay for them to burrow into?

Thank you!

our local supplier near Newmarket always has plenty all year round, drop me a pm if you are nearby and i'll send you his number.

Hi Lisa

It is called Cwm farm off Blackbrook road. CF831NF.

You will have to decide if it is soft enough when you see it, it is a bit more coarse than my last bales but the pigs seem to be enjoying it especially as it's this summers hay.

Hay is such a big issue! I had no idea before I got piggies that hays could look so different from eachother.

I have a horse farmer I get hay from right now, but I know she now has the new harvest and you never know if it will be as good as the stuff I have now...

Lisa did you get any hay, I bought 3 bales of funtastic burrowing hay the other day in the Vale.

Went to our local farm shop yesterday hoping to get some, and they did not have any. They said they would probably not have any for a few weeks. So I have been obliged to buy some from the pet shop - tiny bag for the price we usually pay for a big bale.
(My fault for leaving it until we had almost run out) mallethead

I went to get some supplies today from my local equestrian cash 'n' carry, including a bale of hay. Last time I was there it was £4.20 a bale, which is more than most places anyway, but today it was £5.75! It's green and smells lovely and I save money of buying the bedding and food though so I'm not complaining.

But it's not even winter yet so what are the prices going to be like in the new year?!

We asked our local feed merchant if there was due to be any shortages and she has assured us there will not be, fingers crossed as we will need loads of it to keep our bunnies and shed piggies warm and well fed!

Yes I did but always good to know of other places incase I get caught short again

Where in the vale did you go? PM me if you don't want to put here.

And what's it like? The last stuff I had has lots of sticks I have to pull out.

Thanks!

Does anyone know where I could go to get bales of hay from in Manchester? New to the place, would be fine if I was still living back home in south wales lol.

Hay has been an issue for me too. Luckily I found a supplier who had a fair few bales so i made several trips and bagged myself 8 large square bales at £3 a bale. Lasting me forever. Plenty for the winter too. My local country store bumped their prices up to £5 - 6 a bale!

hi,

Hi Lisa

I buy it from a farm off five mile lane,if you travel from the cardiff side of five mile lane just past the amelia trust is a white cottage on the left hand side turn left at the cottage and the farm is half a mile on the right, I will try and find a phone contact. The hay itself is very soft and short cut about 6 inches with the odd stiff type branch to remove.

Try owning horses in this hay shortage!! Its not cheap atm. I'm paying 2.50 a bag down in Dover.

But PAH do some hay cookies which my boy loves so when I go there I go and get a couple of packets. A packet lasts me 3 weeks for one pig having half a cookie a day. And they are 3.50 I think

you can find the hay cookies slightly cheaper at larger tesco stores

i got 9.5 kilos and paid no postage £16 but better check with Them before you buy. Its good long green hay sweet smelling too the girls are chomping away now. Was packed in plastic and nice and dry when it arrived.
