Hay varietys

Pet shops generally stock meadow hay and timothy hay. Timmy hay is meant to be better but my piggies prefer meadow hay (which is good for me as it's cheaper :)) ).

People also feed hays mixed with other things, like excel herbage which has danelion and other herbs in it.

The cheapest is meadow hay but it's not really the best, I would prefer my boys to eat timmy hay but they won't really eat much of it so I have had to switch back to meadow hay.

Mine have fairly cheapy meadow hay to nest in and sit on, I put more specialist hay in their socks though, eg. scratch & Newton with dandelions which is their fave. xx

hi just went to all the produce stores around here and couldnt find timothy hay the only decent variety i could find was meadow, all the places said that we cant get timothy hay here is meadow ok to ue all the time?

I always got told that GP`s can have any sort of hay all the time just as long as it not dustie !
Just make sure your GP`s have hay all the time as they need it :)

Ordinary meadow is completely fine. I do supplement ours with Oxbow's Timothy / Orchard hay and Readi grass. Just look for the greenest meadow you can find.

The only hay you should not give all the time is alfalfa, as it is considerably higher in calcium and protein than grass hays. I have heard of/fed:

Meadow
Orchard Grass
Bluegrass
Timothy
Oat
Brome
Rye

The greener the better!

Bluegrass

I do live in the Bluegrass State! :)) lame attempt at a joke :p

the only thing readily available around here is Timothy but mine doesn't really seem to like it all that much, she only munches on the bits that I put in her hut for her to lay on.

we only get Timothy Hay from the vets pre packaged.... it's just not available :{
I'm going to produce store tomorrow to buy some pasture hay from our area here in victoria...as one of your produce stores what they have and what's in it and if it's safe for the piggies! xx>>>

I get Meadow hay for the price and the fact its green and fresh...I wouldnt buy timothy hay personally because of the price and the small amount you get for your money

I feed stalky hay its meadow but stalkier the soft hay just doesn't do anything for the ol' peggys! :)
