On the way back from the vets we use last week, decided to stop at a little family owned farm shop to have a look around (always searching for nice hay etc. :))
They had bags larger than a bin liner for £4 which was impressive and freshly cut a few days previously so launched a bag into the car. The piggies love it so yesterday went back for more.
The owner remembered us and gave us a large bag and then asked us to wait a few minutes and came back with half a bale of the most beautiful stalky green and fresh hay I've ever smelled. Tired of poor supplies online and in shops and concerned the piggies weren't having a good nom on the soft thin stuff we've been sent so has cost us extra to buy Timothy and Burgess Forage etc.
Total cost...= £4 for the lot so anyone in/around the W. Midlands, check out Albrighton Feeds :) They do piggy/rabbit food as well as other pet foods and have said they can order anything we need so we're pleased we popped in there now (and the piggies aren't complaining either :(|))
 
That's so good :) I can't seem to find decent hay this year either. Might try the farm shops round me...

They are - we were pleasantly surprised at how hospitable they are and genuinely interested in our piggies :))
I was concerned about the time hay is cut and bagged on another thread I was reading and horrified to discover some could be packed for a year before being sold so deteriorates in the plastic :)>>> Our last batch was utter rubbish :x
It really put me off :(
 
there is a farm shop near us, never tried their hay might give it a go. I have just paid £3.59 for a bag from the pet shop it isnt bad but not like it used to be
 
I use my local farm and pet supplies place, the hay is amazing its always fresh and sweet smelling as they sell to horsey people and have a large turnaround. I only have to take a bag in and the piggies are wheeking :)

They are just past the old 'Lea Manor' (your both far too young to remember that place though ;)) and on the right hand side - the hay is brilliant and we're only half way down the bale with our greedy pigs :x

I live in Albrighton XD
and i get my hay there - smells fantastic, it's green and the piggies go mad for it.
I paid £7 i think for a full bale (it's in the shed now) and it's been in there a few months through the snow and is still green.
If you mention it's for the piggies, they sometimes get an order of soft hay which is better for bedding etc. - haven't got one thorn or branch in it yet either
 
For everyone else who don't live near there, try this website. Look for a place neer you and ring them. I have used two places near me and got a bale of hay for £4-£5. Most places will happily sell you a single bale.
