looking at the price of hay i was wondering is it all right to use the bales you get for horses as guinea bedding,at the minute i am paying £5 for a 3kg bag or i can buy bales for £8 :-\

Horse bales are fine. I have another 3 coming tomorrow :) Then I think I've used up all my storage space LOL!

Thats what I buy, the piggies eat it as well. £8 a bale is expensive its about £3 here, you just need to make sure its fresh and not musty.

Sorry to hijack this thread.

I have just bought 2 bales of hay for £3 each. Is it suitable for bedding and feeding hay? the bales I have seem to have hard stalks, therefore i am worried about putting loads of it in their cages in case it pokes their eyes when they are playing in it.

What are peoples thoughts on this.

At the moment I think we should be conserving hay for eating :) Try Medibed or Aubiose (with a soft bedding) for bedding. Paper bags are good for playing in.
