Hi all, took the girls to the vet today as they ware itching, and they had tiny crawlers on them , they have now bean treated , what I want to check , she the vet suggested putting the hay in the microwave or the freezer, has anyone ever done this, if so how long would it need to be in microwave/ freezer for, would it take the goodness out of the hay. Thanks .

I did not think hay mites caused itching. Is the vet sure it is not mange mites? I will ask @helen105281 to advise you. Which hay do you buy?

Mine had lice they were moving and looked like tiny grains of rice did yours look like this?

I have heard of doing that with hay but not done so myself.

I would buy completely new hay if you haven't already, and just check it thoroughly before using.

What have they been treated with?
