boo everyone!

Getting more into posting on this forum :)

Just wondered what hay people used and found to be the best for their piggy dumplings?

Timothy hay is lower in calcium but rougher in texture, whereas meadow/orchard hay is softer. Both are good and both can be used - or you can vary between them.

Alfalfa hay is a protein and calcium rich legume that should only be fed to pregnant and nursing sows.

At present, my herd of 8 are on meadow hay from Hay for Pets, 9.5 kg for £16 inc delivery. I think their favourite is Ings hay, also from Hay for Pets. They also have Timothy hay. (I used to get their hay from Dust Free Hay. Large bales 6 kg for £19.98. It's a no-brainer!) The bag that they are on at the moment has lasted 5 weeks so far and still plenty left. Hay for Pets do little taster bags so you can try them out to see which your piggies like best. Timothy hay didn't go down very well with my lot.

I am feeding mine a mix of Timothy hay with carrot and apple through it (I know they are spoilt) and also meadow hay.

eddie and mollie have soft meadow hay from hay4pets in their hay area, and on a big plate and in cut kitchen roll tubes around the cage they have a mix of ings hay and timothy and rye hay, both from hay4pets :)

 nice to know there are the same issues to ponder ... i have been looking into hay4pets. i have a large bale of hay from the store i buy some of my horse supplies from (not hay usually because we have haylage at our yard for the horses, which i am curious about in terms of suitability for piggies -i like it for horses because it is really dust-free, but it is quite rich, and i feed yeasacc to my horse to make sure digestion runs smoothly). anyway! how seemingly dust-free is the hay from hay4pets, because the bale i got from the story is quite dusty, which i noticed when i used it for burrowing during one of the nippy nights last week -and while i have ordered from dust-free hay since, it is relatively expensive... though much better. thanks!
