I made a nice hay net, which goes on the side of the cage over they hay tray, where they do most their wee's and poo's. They love to climb in they hay net and snuggle,,but they also pull out loads of the hay which then gets wet and icky.
So should I just leave it like that, or maybe make another one with smaller holes so they can't climb in, so hopefully less hay is wasted? Or how do you do it, is wasted hay just something to put up with?

I make hay bags from cotton fabric amd cut smaller holes just big enough for there noses to poke in and pull hay out.

This is meant in a good supportive way so please don't take it the wrong way, but please be careful with hay nets. Some piggies can hang themselves if they get caught around the neck if they climb in and out.

@GloriousGuineaGirl makes a very good point about safety. Sadly we do hear of nasty accidents and injuries, so it would perhaps be safer to make the bags out of cotton fabric or similar.

This is it, made from linen, the holes are 3x3 inches and it rests on the hay, held on the bars with velcrow, I followed a pattern on here. I was thinking of making one with smaller holes, but i've read that piggies have managed to getto even tiny holes and get stuck. They do seem to love hiding in there.

Oh thats nice I thought you meant an actual net like a tennis net type material. Those are what I make but the holes are a tad smaller.

Mine like to play in hay so I put in a litter tray and fill it so they can jump in and out and play. :D

Sort of, I used a linen napkin because I thought it would last and wash well, and it's roughly the right size. I sewed up the sides at the length of the bit of the cage I wanted it on, we've got a corner cage so it's got odd sized sides, then I used the sizes for the holes from a pattern on here. Then I looked around my sewing stash for a way to attach it the bars and settled on velcro.
We like it. :-)
