How do you supply your hay? I’ve been reading that hay racks are dangerous. I was just about to buy a fleece hay holder. But I’m not sure wether to buy a big shallow litter tray and have a hay area. I just feel like I throw so much hay away so I waste like half a bag..

I use hay bags for the 'special' hay and hang these over large plastic storage tubs.
My lot love playing in the hay in the storage tubs, and will happily sit there for hours munching away.

I do throw a lot of hay away, but it is such an important part of their diet, and also doubles as environmental enrichment.
I buy in bulk to keep the cost down, and accept that it is part of guinea pig ownership.

I was thinking of having there oxbow hay available in a fleece bag, then having their hay area mixed with oxbow and maybe a cheaper hay (still decent) maybe that would be more cost effective.
I have no problem buying them as much hay as they could possibly fill their little bellies. Just seeing how everyone does there hay :luv:

My piggies love playing in the hay, sleeping in the hay, weeing in the hay, pooing in the hay and then eating the hay! I assume it makes it taste better!:)):)). I have had loads of different methods of giving them hay and they just love boxes of hay that they can burrow in! Mine start popcorning when they here the hay bag coming out!

I give hay in cardboard boxes from aldi/lidl where I can choose the best shapes from shelves (as long as the box tidying member of staff hasn't just been through the shop!) and when the piggies have got it too soggy I compost the box with the old hay and poos. In the bigger box they have for run time I don't change the whole lot of hay every day, they can go on sitting on the trampled bit for a few days while I add fluffy fresh on top! The boxes all come ready with the front cut low - handy for hopping in and out - and you can put an upside down one over the top to make it into a proper hidey.

That is exactly what I do - their more expensive hay which I can only get in small quantities goes in their hay bags to make sure they eat most of it.
The cheaper farm hay that I buy in bales goes everywhere else!

We use seed trays lined with newspaper and filled with hay. I change the newspaper twice a day (a lot of the poo falls down to the bottom of the tray) and replace the hay once a day. I guess there is a lot of waste but it makes them happy. I love to watch my skinny pig Dora launch herself into a fresh tray of hay, she takes a leap from the edge of the tray like she is diving into a swimming pool.

I do exactly the same!

I pile hay on the cage floor and they happily munch away, burrow in it, wee and poop on it and sleep on it.
They love their hay

I just remove the hay that's been weed on and leave anything still usable to reduce waste. I throw the whole lot out about once a week.
