Hello everyone! Quick question about hay. I know Timothy hay is best, but how is meadow hay in comparison? Thank you!

Any grass hay is absolutely fine. The benefit is meadow is that it has a variety of different types in it so can really help keep piggies interested in the different flavours. Plus it is soft can is great but snuggling into as well.

I feed both meadow hay and orchard hay now (in the last few years it was meadow and Timothy) but for decades prior I fed solely meadow hay.
You will find there are many owners on here who only feed meadow

Thank you! They do love meadow hay. I tried taking my little guy out in the garden on his harness, but he refused to budge, just sat eating grass!

Please don’t use harnesses on them - they are incredibly unsafe and piggies have died in them.

Be aware they they shouldn’t be on grass at this time as it is too cold and damp. Particularly if he is an indoor piggy - he can’t be exposed to a temperature change

It was actually dry and warm on the day that I took him out. I wouldn't have taken him out otherwise. I checked the harness with our vet, and she's happy with it.

Any temperature change of more than 5 degrees in one go - ie from a heated house to outside in winter - is too much.

Please do hear the warnings about harnesses. They are well known to be very dangerous.
I am actually very concerned a vet has said they are ok - I’d be changing vet asap.
