I have just brought a new bale of hay, and it is so dusty that is make my skin and eyes itch!

Whats it doing to my pigs??

Now i remember when i was younger and used to do own a pony day, the yard owners told us to put the hay in the hay nets and hose it down and hang it to drain,

it was lovely and warm today and it would of been a good day to do it,

would you say it is an advisable thing to do??

Hmm I'm not sure about wetting it, I get that is to kind of wash the dust away? I guess it would need to dry out completely before you feed it to the pigs but how long would that take? You shouldn't store hay in a damp place because it can go mouldy etc, but that would be wet over a period of time, this is just a blast of water then left to dry... I really don't know, sorry!

Are you sure that it is this year's hay?
Sometimes old hay gets dusty.

Does it smell fresh and not musty?

yes it is this years hay and it comes from a farm shop, I was allowed to smell and touch before i brought:))

but when i was putting it in the shed it was really dusty?

It sounds like the hay has been baled badly or was rained on I wouldn't wet it as it washes out the goodness and would have to be fed wet which I don.t think would be good for piggies and if left to dry the dust will be there still. I would take it back.
