We have noticed that both Crumpy and Lenko are not eating hay at all, is this a problem and can it cause health problems. Have tried Timothy hay but just no interest at all, Can they go without hay or should I try another brand.

It might be worth having their teeth checked If you can't tempt them with another brand

I've been wondering if our two eat loads of hay. I mainly put it in their bed area, and quite a lot of it. When I look in the next morning, there's still hay in there, but obviously it's been trodden down and rummaged in, and possibly eaten, but it's never gone completely. Should I be putting hay all around their hutch? I did get a hay rack but I never saw them go near it!

From my experience, hay can vary with taste and texture. Not that I have eaten any of course! I must admit I have sniffed it though! :))

I bought a bale of hay from a local farm several weeks ago. I was assured it was fresh and this year's but it didn't smell nice. I tried my piggies on it but they weren't having any of it. I bought another bale from another supplier and apparently it was last year's. But as soon as I put in it for them, it is eaten. They love it.

My 3 will eat any hay... They do trample it down and then mess it all up again to make tunnels out of and nests... But mine go into chomp mode when i put hay in...

Are yours eating ok apart from the hay? If they are then it isnt going to be their teeth but maybe the hay is old hay?
We have loads in our field which would be great but its sat there since harvest time and is probably full of rats by now...rolleyes

SOrry went off on a tangent then!

They are eating fine just not hay and they don't drink water either, Will have to see how they go .

If they are getting alot of watery veg then dont worry abiout them not drinking so much as they erally dont drink that much anyway... Mine hardly drink when they get cucumber and other veg...:)
I would try them with diff types and makes of hay... be careful of the compressed hay though as they can carry a lot of dust... Also stalky hay can sometimes cause a piggy to poke themselves in the eye as it did with one of mine and she had a sore eye for a week or so :(

Mine can sometimes go through stages with hay - they haven't eatten very much of it in the last coupla days and it's their favourite hay just now - Excel Herbage.

Mine have Excel Herbage (Timothy Hay with Herbs) and they love it - they go nuts over it and get through 2-3 hayracks a day. Mind you they are fat little beasties!

hi

hi the vet told me that you can put hot water over hay and leave it to soak for a while then give it to your piggie. Adding the hot water doesnt take out any of the hays goodness but it helps the piggie to eat it. Hope this helps.
