yeah i think its one of the best hays you can feed them. I feed mine on it everyday:)

I tried mine on this and they didnt touch it, it was too thick, short and was a similar texture to straw.
Ive reverted back to my usual hay and they munch away happily.

I do not think it is worth the price they ask for it.

Yep, timothy is the primary hay in the US and Canada. Meadow is the more common here.

My pigs love timothy hay, but I am allergic to it so have to stick with Orchard Grass, which they love just as much. It is expensive - not nearly as costly when bought in bulk though - but I feel it's worth it.

Hi
Just a random question- how long does hay last for? We bought a huge sack of it but dont know if i it has a "use by date"?

Hmm I'm not sure but mine has lasted over a couple of months in the garage.

As long as it is stored correctly - in cool area, not in plastic - it can usually last up to a year. I know of some people who bulk buy huge bales and they last 8-12 months when stored in the garage. Personally I would prefer to buy fresh hay every 6 months.

my boys don't like Tim Hay, they prefer the Scratch and Newton long strands and go bananas for Readigrass - the only thing is that the smell is quite strong and it tends to make me heave at the mo... I just leave the door open so air can circulate.

Okay I feel Timothy Hay, it's readily available here and a decent price. Well I have severe allergies to both aspen (we used chips but now use polar fleece for bedding to help with my allergies) and the hay. I'm still allergic to that. Is there an alternative grass feed that I may be less allergic to or that anyone has any suggestions? What about Oxbow hay company? is it worth it? My girls love their hay so I need to find something for that that doens't bother me as much and that they'll love to munch on.

Orchard Grass or Bluegrass is the hay advised for allergy sufferers. Other types of grass hay include oat, brome and meadow, but Orchard Grass tends to have the lowest allergy rate. Timothy tends to irritate allergies quite badly - I am fine with every hay other than Timothy, and a lot of people have also found that.

That's great, I'll tell hubby tonight and we can put an order in with Oxbow to pick up some orchard grass. I'm sure the girls will like it, they live up to the pig part of their names and will eat everything...except for Bessie, she doesn't like cucumber. silly girl.
