To be honest I am sick of buying rubbish hay. I fine the P@H one rubbish and the stuff I got from the range looked good but now I am using I find although there are quite a lot of long bits there are also a ton of short rubbishy bits too! I also found some plastic bag in it and some clumps of soil!

I was wondering about excel forage as it is on 3for2 @ P@H at minute. Is this any better? Has anyone used it before? I looks much greener!

The excel forage is fine for guinea pigs, Mine love it, I use it regularly

The bedding hay I've been buying for the girls has been rubbish lately.

For eatting - they've been getting Burns green oat hay and Readigrass. It's normally Excel Herbage that they get.

I usually use cheap hay for bedding and the excel forage for eating.

I don't use hay for bedding as find it gets smelly within about a day! When I clean it out it smells like a real pig sty :)) Are they ok having forage and nothing else as I imagine yours would eat some of their bedding too!

we use compressed hay by best pets for downstairs and they love it got it from hardware store £2.35

Hiya,

I used to get my hay from pets at home but didn't like the quality and then went to my local farm shop and got a huge bale of horse hay for £3 and it's lovely and my piggies and my rabbit love it! It smells very sweet and is long. I store it in a builders bag in my shed and I love going in there, it smells like a hay barn mhhhh! LOL. You could also try the meadow hay from Bob Martin (my little friend), I went to ASDA the other day and there was a pack opened and smelled it and it smelled really good and looked very green. Good luck!

I use my little friend and it's great! Just like a fresh bale, and smells so fresh!

i get a big bale of her from a farm

i have never been to the farm or seen it my dad sorts my hair out for me i just pay for it

I've just found a place out in Lytham that does horse hay by the bale for £4.50 - if you go to the P@H at Ribble then its about 2 miles from there.

I have some rubble sacks that I'm going to bag it into so I can keep it in the flat - its currently making a mess in my hall

The guineas love it and where as I go through one bag of P@H large hay a week for 7 pigs I reckon this will last well over a month and is much much better quality.

They also do carefresh and other bits at competitive prices and they dont sell animals

Really nice place

Do you have the address? I am terrible at directions but could use AA-routeplanner or borrow my mum's sat nav if you know the address! I have bought 6 bales of forage in the 3for2 at p@h but at minute I am feeding 50% forage and 50% of my yucky meadow hay I have at minute. I don't want to feed 100% forage as it is very short and thin but looks lovely and green so like it for that reason! Thanks!

Heres the address and phone number - worth giving them a call make sure they have the bales in - but they are really nice - a great new business in the area

The last lot of hay i got from P@H is so short and brown this stuff is long and green and smells beautiful

thanx will do! I should be paying you commisson! :)) Know any rescues close by with piggies available too?

Ha Ha no worries - might as well share where there is stuff up here - esp as there arent that many places in Fylde coast that are any good - I think I have been to every pet store and garden centre trying to find good guinea pig stuff

Non of the rescues over here have any, I went to Easterleigh on Saturday loads of rabbits but no piggies, RSPCA here never have any and the Blackpool P@H is being refurbed so no animals at all at the moment.

You could try the lady in Winsford - i know it a bit of a drive but she has lots in at the moment apparently.

Maybe we should do an on mass rescue of all them pigs on preloved in Preston!

that would be good but they wanted money for them! They would just get more I think only wanting £7 each so must be getting desparate.

Blackpool RSPCA had one but not suitable as male aged about 1 year. Will probably contact Cavy Haven in winsford - its a bit of a treck and will have to see about home checks? I believe that is the one nutmeg went to so maybe I could mention the site and her? Nutmeg did a home check for me and I could take photos of my set-up. I think I will e-mail them tomorrow and see what happens!

I'm sure if you've already had a home check Irene will be good with that

I hope you find some lovely new friends for your lovely new homes

Let me know how you get on with Cavy Haven as I havent been down there yet but am very tempted although think I would end up with them all

I know that is the problem I am now thinking of maybe just one more as george seems so happy yesterday and today I think he likes being on his own. This morning he was doing laps when I came down wheeking loudly. He spent last night whilst I was asleep creating meyhem! :)) I came into to an upside down litter tray, a pile of willow sticks which were tied together last night, toys scattered everywhere and a very cheeky george!

I tydied up his cage and he sat ontop of the nero house shouting at me the whole time to stop messing and get his breakfast lol!

Tiger just sat quietly in his house until he heard me chopping and then he started!

They are very different piggies and in a bit of a dillema as i know I cannot chance another boy with george but if I get him neutered it could all be for nothing as he might not like a girlfriend either...

i only use hay bought from www.dustfreehay.co.uk

it smells gorgeous and the piggies love it. I buy the ten bale and it last for months and months, so well worth the money.

I would now never buy from pet stores, its poor quality, and my piggies are always getting lice from it now. it wasnt like this years and years ago, its like as demand increases, quality has decreased.

Wish I could do this but have nowhere to put a 10 bale! I just knocked down my shed and my boyfriend and friends put up one that we got from my sister. Sadly it leaks worse than the first one! I will need to try to get it fixed before thinking of a 10 bale!

they do a 5 bale which doesnt take up too much room - buying it by the indvidual bag though is very expensive so best to buy in bulk! shame about the shed though as that would be perfect!

I know it is damper than the first one :)) trust me to let them put it up unsupervised! :)) oh well might look into how much it will cost for someone to come and put a new one up for me! would be great to have a safe dry place to put all my piggie stuff! I went mad on 3for2's at p@h so have 6 bags of forage and i have two big bags of megazorb in my top shed which is dry but where I keep fridge freezer and dryer! I have to climb over them to get at dryer / freezer it is a nightmare and no room for hay in there!

Just been speaking to Irene tonight and she is lovely. I am going to go up there soon and take tiger and george for an outing to see if they like any of the lovelies she has! Gonna see about george first as will **** get him neutered - gonna ring the vets and see what he thinks. Will let you know how I get on & will have to tell everyone of the many lovely piggies she has and she'll probably get cleared out! (although she said she has about 35 of her own so she won't be lonely :)) )

Thanks Briony but not sure where you mean when you say at Ribble,is that a mistype or do you mean Ribbleton or do you have a road name for the Lytham place .Sorry to be so dense!

I have some little boy piggies which I would let go to a really good home no money needed just the guarantee of a kind knowledgeable home. If I cant find really good people then they will stay here, but you sound a really good piggie person so if you want to visit I am near Garstang
