Hi. I read the forum regularly but havent posted very much but i do take on board advice from all users.

I have a rather strange question from a guinea pig owner. Basically, they wont eat hay. I understand how important it is in their diet hence why i tried all different sorts. Ive used common pet shop hay, timothy hay, dried grass and they dont like any of it. Ive been to a pet shop to ask for advice but their more concerned with making a sale rather than what is best for my guineapigs. They tried to sell me alfafa which i later found out is for growing guineapigs, not adults and they also tried to sell me denghie high fibre roughage which is a product ive never heard of.

I was wondering if people have any suggestions at what i could try.

mine arent crazy on timothy hay either and it cost me a fortune :-\
i bought readygrass in the end although they do have hay from the farm

Mine eat readygrass but i was told that hay was needed on top of this. Have you heard of the dengie hi fibre roughage?

Do you think they meant Dengie Hi-Fi? Its a horse food on the same lines as readigrass but its dried alfalfa mixed with high quality straw lightly sprayed with mollasses. I know its dust free and you can use it as a hay replacement for horses but have never tried it for my piggies.

Yes Jodie, that sounds about right. She said that if they didnt eat any hay, that would be of benefit to them. Has anyone else used this with their piggies?

alfalfa is good for growing and pregnant puggies but shouldn't be fed every day as it contains too much calcium? I think its calcium 98) Its ok as a treat. I wouldn't give my piggies molasses.

There isn't much molasses, it isn't sticky at all.

It is much drier looking than readigrass, possibly not as appetising to a piggie?
