My piggies are running low on hay and I have decided to try them on haybox.

I've seen so many positive things on this forum about haybox. Its works out about thesame price as the hay I buy off eBay but no plastic packaging and from what everyone on here has said will be better quality.

I currently buy natures own sweet green and meadow hay the double pack with 3.5kg of each for £17 off eBay. I dont drive and the pet shops or supermarkets near me generally dont stock anything remotely good or reliably. So I stay online for piggie things.

I dont think there's anything wrong with the natures own other than it seems quite dusty and it is plastic wrapped. Haybox might be better quality too.

I've ordered the taster trial pack to see what the piggies prefer and then will pick what to buy.

So thanks to anyone on the forum who has mentioned haybox you've made choosing a whole lot easier!

Mine love their HayBox hay.
I get a mix of meadow hay and first cut as these seem to be the favourites.
Hope your piggies enjoy it too.

Haybox is fab! I get 15kg of meadow hay every three weeks and have also now started getting 5kg of the second cut soft timothy (mine don’t like the coarse first cut). None of my animals will eat any other type of hay!

I use haybox meadow and natures own pets sweet green hay and love both! I dont find the natures own much dustier than haybox, but there’s always going to be bits and scraps at the bottom. I buy my natures own direct from them and it’s now in compostable bio film so the empty bags go in my food bin!

Yeah I noticed in my double pack the sweet green was in compostable plastic, but the meadow appeared not to be.

To be fair I'd prefer a box over bags anyway. Currently I transfer hay from the natures own bags into a box as i spilt so much of it every day trying to pull it directly from the bag. 1 less chore each week!

Yeah, I prefer the boxes too, but I still manage to make a mess! Not quite sure how hay manages to migrate quite so far. . .

I got piggies on the condition they and their stuff stayed in my office room. Good job my partner actually really likes the piggies so doesnt mention the migrating hay that much. We found hay in our bed the other day. Not sure how it got there!

Oh the piggies that "live" in the office room, my partner said the other day that during the day, if we're in, are allowed to free roam the livingroom. So them "living" in the office is a very loose term.

The taster pack has come. Nova and Luna have absolutely destroyed the soft cut.

Is the soft cut still OK to wear down teeth and help gut health?

Will they be OK on just soft cut? Or should I get some more course stuff too?

I’m looking into this. How regularly should it be ordered to stay fresh? What size box would you recommend for 3 piggies

My 2 skinny pigs go through 10Kg every 8 weeks.

The more you buy the cheaper it is. So it becomes more of a storage issue as the boxes are quite big (it does say how big on the site). I can store two 5kg boxes but not 3.

I agree with this after squirrelling away 3 x 5kg boxes! Ha

😂 we're lucky and live in an older house that has random storage spaces. We switched our ancient boiler to combi and the cupboard that use to have the water tanks in now stores our spare box of piggie hay (along with things for humans like towels, bedding, bog roll that we buy in bulk).

The piggies have their own cupboard in their room in a random space above the stairs.

For those of you that buy haybox...

I placed my order yesterday (Friday) lunchtime. Any idea what day it might turn up? I know its 2 to 3 days but with it being the weekend I'm not sure.

my guess would be that it would be processed on Monday so delivery will probably be Tuesday

Awesome, thanks! Trying to work out if I have enough hay to tide me over. Stupidly, I'd buried a nearly empty bag of hay in the box of haybox so it looked like I had more than I do!
