Scratches....silly auto-correct.
Hi,
I just got my little one from a pet store a couple days ago and her nails were very bad. The first stop I made was to a groomers who cut them down for me. They were so bad she was walking on the heels of her feet because they were all bent. Anywho she is in a loving home now and I was just wondering what the best way was to promote fast healing. When she itches her face she seems to nearly break open the scabs.
Any thoughts?

Poor piggy  she's lucky to be in a loving home now. I'm not sure what creams, have you bathed them in warm water with some sea salt? That would help to stop any infection

Hi!
Are you sure that the scratches are just because she had the nails too long? Because I would totally go to a vet to check if there is another reason behind them (fungal, or mites).

Ive no experience of skinny pigs but will tag @helen105281 who keeps skinnies. They have special, needs over and above those of piggies with hair.

I agree with @Teddybear22 thst a trip to the vet may be a good idea to rule out some form of mites or fungal infection that is causing scratching.

She doesn't seem to be itching them at all. Just once or twice when she is grooming herself but if more appear by Monday (when vet is open). I will take her to check it out.
The nails were really bad. Brown and probably almost a cm long. Almost looked like gnarled tree branches.

Oh my word, poor girlie. I'm sure she will feel better with her new, shorter nails.

Done, thanks-

Oh blimey, glad she is safe with you now, she's gorgeous. I have only had one skinny pig with scratches and that was Phoebe, it was a couple of years ago but I think we bathed them in salt water and used Sudocrem. Not sure if you can get that in Canada though. I would be inclined to get her vet checked to rule out any skin issues though and just for a general health check if her nails had been allowed to get that long. How old is she?

I have no idea. Found her at a pet store in another town and fell in love.

What about Epson salt?

Hmm not too sure, I tend to just follow instructions online to mix up a saline solution and use the salt I have at home which tends to be table salt.
