poor little Barbra had blood in her urine today; we've been to the vet and she has a water infection. She's on Baytril and looks so sorry for herself.

Please check whether she is still eating and/or has mushy poos. Weigh her daily for the time being. Baytril can have an adverse effect on some piggies. Contact your vet asap if that is the case and ask for pediatric septrin instead; that is an oral form of the batrim mentioned in the link. What dose is she on?

You can help your girl by adding a pinch of probiotics to her veg in order to keep her guts going (avipro plus without additional calcium is available from the internet, or you can get p@h's brand if you need some asap).

You can also syringe additionally unsweetened cranberry juice, either pure or mixed with water; mild diuretics like cooled dandelion tea made by steeping fresh or dried dandelion in boiled water can also help with flushing out as many bacteria in the first couple of days.

Here is more information on UTI. Please be aware that UTIs can be very persistent and usually take about a three week course of fairly high dosed antibiotics to clear. If symptoms persist, have her x-rayed to exclude the presence of bladder stones or sludge.

she's eating and drinking well and was weighed at the vet and hasn't lost any weight thus far, and poops are fine, she left some for the vet to clean up off the scales :)). She is on 0.4ml twice daily (she's 1.1kg). I'll try and get her some probiotics this afternoon.

Apart from looking miserable and hating me at the moment (she really didn't like the Baytril) she is the same as usual.

Awwwwww... Poor mite...
Try giving her a bit of a probiotic as she's on baytril and it can up set her tummy...

Lodes of healing wheeks from all the piggies...
x

Baytril is one of the most foul things I have had ever the misfortune of tasting! I can't blame any piggy for putting up a fight!
Some people like to mix it with ribena. Personally, I give it straight, so that all goes in and then something stronger tasting to wash the baytril away.

The dose is right.

Hopefully, Barbra will feel better again soon!

Just thought I would update.

Barbra has a mass in her bladder and is currently getting having palliative care.

she was on Metacam twice daily but it didn't really stop the paid. She is now on Tramadol and is more comfortable.

she's still eating and drinking well though
