My beautiful boy is at the vets having an xray, he's been having gut problems. I'm in bits doing that awful wait for the phone call. It's a year since we lost Willow to kidney stones so it's hard not to think the worst. Please send Bracken bucket loads of healing vibes.

Poor Bracken is constipated, the xray showed a mass of fecal matter in his abdomen so they are keeping him in overnight on painkillers, gut meds and fluids. He is going to be reassesed in the morning after a fecal count to decide if he needs a scan for a tumor or other cause of blockage.

Poor Bracken! Healing wheeks from me and all my piggies. Did the vet give Zantac (ranitidine)? It got Puggle pooping again within hours of her acute bloat tummy emergency, really good medicine.

Yes he is having Zantac, they are hoping it will clear the blockage, the big concern of course is what has caused the blockage as he doesn't have bloat. I'm fearing the worst while hoping for the best.

You must be so worried, but if you have a good vet and good meds hopefully they will figure it out. Really hope its nothing too serious x

There are no exotic vets available until next Wednesday but he has been seen by at least 2 general vets today who were very knowledgeable and extremely kind. He really is in the best of hands and anything that can be done will be. I am worried about him being there on his own though. Rusty is looking very lost here without him. I asked about Rusty staying as well, which I have done with piggies in the past but they want to do a fecal count and watch his output overnight (there is a vet on duty 24hrs) so he needed to be alone. Just hoping if Bracken pulls through they still love one another when he comes back.

It's so quiet here tonight, the others in their respective cages must know something is different, they are all staying in their beds. Poor Rusty came out and grabbed a green bean at tea time and rushed off to hide with it, must be habit, Bracken's not here to pinch it!

Well Bracken sounds to be in the best of hands. Let’s hope things start moving and that there’s nothing sinister behind it all. Everything crossed x

Hope Bracken is ok and it's nothing too serious. My George has a tumour and I have been told to keep him comfy for as long as possible. So I really do hope Bracken makes a speedy recovery. Sending hugs.xx

The night duty vet phoned at 7 before he went home to say Bracken had a comfortable night and has done some poops. Bracken will be scanned later and hopefully it will be good news and we will be bringing him home, we are all missing him, I've never known my piggies be so quiet.
@rhymer I hope your George manages to keep happy for a long time yet. X

Sending loads of vibes to Bracken and lots of love to you also x

The vet has just phoned, Bracken is coming round from his GA and can be discharged in a few more hours, I can't wait to have him home. The scan showed nothing except the fecal mass that also showed on the xray so the vets are sending the results off for some experts to look at and they will update me on Monday. We are to continue his meds at home, hopefully the Zantac will clear the blockage, the cause of which so far is a complete mystery.
Thank you everyone for your kind messages and healing vibes, it really helps to have people who understand what this situation is like when you are playing the waiting game. It's not just a guinea pig.

He's home, still a bit groggy. Rusty was so pleased to see him he couldn't stop mounting his head and being all boarly so I've split the cage with some spare grids tonight to give Bracken time to settle in and get over the GA (he's had 2 lots in 2 days) poor thing. They can still see and talk to each other but without all the extra excitement!

It's been a worrying weekend, Bracken's eaten very little and fights the syringe everytime we try to medicate and feed him. The vet phoned but they haven't had the report back yet. Some food is going in but very little is coming out the other end, just wish this blockage would clear.

We are wating on the report on the scan at the moment before going to the next step. At the moment he is on metacam, Zantac, syringe feed and extra water. They have said the Zantac should get things moving by today, he has an appointment tomorrow with to decide what to do next.
