I woke up to loud hooting on wednesday morning, assumed it was my heart failure piggy fudge and rushed over expecting the worst.. It was Crunchie, nodding and sounding horrific. I lifted her hidey and she shot out and ate some pellets, weighed her and no weight loss. So called the vets and made an appointment for 4 hours time.
She deteriorated quickly, stopped eating and her breathing got worse. I rushed her to the vets as an emergency and they took her away down the bacl. Brought her back 15 mins later and told me theyd put her on oxygen, gave her a full exam and took a few xrays of her chest- they didnt hang about!
She has a URI, fortunately not deep in the lungs so not pneumonia. She was put on septrin and steam therapy. There is a worry the septrin may not work as shes just finished a 2 week course for her bladder but its the only antib she'll tolerate. If it doesnt work iv to take her in for baytril via nebuliser.
The steam sessions in the bathroom have helped tremendously and her appetite is slowly coming back but I'm
Still syringe feeding. Shes currently 900g, which isnt her as she used to be my chunky girl.. But her chronic IC has took its toll. My 5 month old sow currently weighs the same as her, and even terminaly ill fudge is 100g heavier than her.
Fudge has also been put on septrin as a precaution, as she was having a laboured breathing fluid flare up, but this may have been triggered by the URI if its passed to her. She is actualy improving so
It seems she may also have it in a milder form.
Healing vibes for crunchie please, my poor oldies have alot to deal
With bless them.
