Tomorrow morning at 8.30, I shall be taking Eliza to the vets as she still has red / orange colour urine and I noticed a lot of powdery drops on the news paper. After what happened to Connie, I don't want to take any chances. When I came back from my honeymoon, I rang my vet as I was concerned. My vet has suggested that Eliza has an x ray to double check that there are not any stones forming and she is hopefully going to have her bladder flushed. My vet said that as Eliza isn't showing signs of pain / discomfort unlike Connie, we could leave her for now and see how she gets on but I don't want to take the chance of her becoming poorly like Connie. My vet thinks that Eliza could have some bladder sludge.
This is something I didn't think I would have to go through again and I just hope I have made the right decision.
Tomorrow is going to be a nail biting day for me again especially because I am doing a 2 till 10 shift so Chris will be picking her up.
Please send her your healing vibes x

Thank you all. We dropped her off just after 8.30 and I am missing her like mad. It's the sitting around and waiting that does it :( I have to leave for work at 1 so Chris will be waiting near the phone. Eleanor doesn't like being on her own as she keeps hiding xx

Hi All. Well, the vet did an x ray and couldn't find anything in Eliza's bladder. Unfortunately, she couldn't flush her bladder out as she isn't a specialist and found it to fiddly and didn't want to take a risk of causing any damage. However, she did say that as nothing was found on the x ray, she didn't see a reason why Eliza would need a bladder flush. She has said that if I would like her to have a bladder flush, she will refer us to a specialist.
The vets over all opinion is to leave Eliza alone for the time being as, as far as she is concerned, Eliza is happy and healthy. The vet even commented on how greedy Eliza is. She has recommended that I take a urine sample in once a month or so as because of the colour of her urine, I sometimes worry there is blood in it. If blood is found, the vet will prescribe us with a course of Septrin.
I am trying to stop stressing out about her but it is difficult xx

if you are still worried and unsure could you get a second opinion?

Thats good news there is no stone. I dont know about bladder sludge showing up on an x-ray. If Eliza isnt squeaking when urinating and is eating and drinking ok then the discoloured urine could simply be related to something she has eaten. Maybe Alcester Pigs can offer more constructive advice on whether to get a bladder flush. I'm sure Eliza will be fine but can understand how worried you must be after the loss of your beautiful Connie.

You would see sludge as a milky, dotty film on an x-ray; if Eliza had any problems in her bladder they would have shown up!

I have been told by a specialist that this extreme oxidisation can happen in guinea pigs without any underlying cause when I went to see one about Minx and her bladder problems (among them this extremely rusty urine).

Wishing you and Eliza all the best. My tip: leave her bladder alone if there isn't anything in it!
