Healing Vibes For Ellen Please

I hope she improves soon! I'm assuming there was leukocytes in the urine (white cells) which would point to infection, which you wouldnt really get with IC so hoping it is just the infection and it clears up soon!

I have an IC piggy, its a nightmare as I'm sure you know but cystease has improved crunchies condition massively, as well as filtered water, cranberry supplement and a no pellet diet (last resort) .. Shes currently having a flare up but doesnt seem up nor down in herself, they are much less frequent or intense as they used to be x

Thank you. Yes, I'm assuming she must have leukocytes in her urine. It was my parents who took her to the vets and infection showed up on the dip stuck so I am preying it's just a simple infection.

Emma's dipsticks didn't show infection, just blood. She often has traces of blood in her urine since being diagnosed with IC and often has squeaky wees. It's so upsetting to see :( but like Crunchie, cystease helps keeps her comfortable along with metacam. I also use filtered water and give limited pellets.

I worry so much when it comes to bladders as I have lost two piggies due to bladder problems :( x

Yes she needs an adequate dose of metacam Claire that should sort her out. Don't worry about metacam, l have several pigs that have taken it for years, young and old and they have never had any ill effects. Better to give adequate pain relief than worry about hypothetical side effects. The pain and inflammation is more damaging and can lead to chronic problems so better to treat effectively and early as you are doing. X

Thank you. I *think* I have seen her do her first wee without squeaking but that could be wishful thinking.

She's currently having floor time with the others whilst I clean their cage

My vet has requested another urine sample on Monday to see how things are x

Sending healing vibes, you are sounding more positive now.. Positive thinking goes a long way!

I thought things were on the up but I noticed a small blood clot on the fleece :(

After watching Emma and Ellen like Hawks all afternoon, Ellen has done some wees and not squeaked but Emma is still squeaking whilst utinating. The blood clot could be from either Emma or Ellen.

Can uti's cause small blood clots?

If the clot was from Emma, is this common with IC?

Even though Emma has been like this for over a year now, I still can't relax with her.

My stress levels are through the roof again. I'm so worried for both my girls :(

Crunchie used to pass small clots, its just where the blood has congealed in the bladder/urethra before being passed out.

Are both girls on cystease? It may be worth a try, as it can even help during a bad UTI.

I think if you are still concerned you should take them both back and explain your worries- i feel i am never away from my vets (because I'm literally not!) but i dont care as i would rather be safe than sorry.. And we know our piggies well enough to know when we should be concerned.

X

I would take a pic of the clot & show your vet. It could be early stage pyometra :( Unfortunately if there is blood present in female pigs this can't be ruled out & sometimes a UTI can be diagnosed when in fact it is a uterine problem. I would consider an ultrasound scan of her bladder & uterus to rule it out x

Thank you. Hopefully that's all the clot was then. It's just stressful as I wasn't sure which girl it came from.

Emma is on a full capsule of cystease daily for her IC but I could try with Ellen.

When Ellen was examined on Saturday, he bladder was apparently soft and my vet didn't have any concerns. My mum also confirmed that Ellen had blood and high protein in her urine which is why she's being treated for an infection?

Emma has blood in her urine too but she's been like that for over a year now.

I just get so worked up and panicky and often worry that I'm telling my vet how to do her job x

Thank you. Emma was scanned and xrayed numerous times last year and nothing was found? But I guess it would harm having them done again. I just wish I new which girl it had come from :(

Ellen has blood and protein in her wee which is why she is being treated for an infection. My vet wasn't concerned when feeling around her bladder / uterus but I do worry about things like that.

Ellen is only 18 months old :(

I'll see what her urine sample reveals on Monday as I guess she's only been on the Septrin for 6 days x
