Tomorrow my darling girl Panda undergoes a g.a for an investigation into whats going on within her mouth. Since having her teeth clipped by an incompetent vet on Thursday she's still not eating on her own and is refusing food and even with c.c it takes a while to get enough into her. I feel I have no choice there are no vets in Plymouth or the surrounding area that will do the procedure while Panda is conscious its not fair on her to have to be force-fed all the time and rather than her have another 2-3 weeks of stress if it's meant to be I'd rather her go quietly and painfree under the op. I have taken her to another vets and discussed the options and it seems that this is the only way forward. It's going to be a very difficult time waiting for news tomorrow. Thanks

Hope it goes well, best of luck. I would recommend getting an X-ray done while under to check the roots of the teeth out.

Lots of healing vibes and love to your little girl x x

I hope everything goes ok for Panda. Although it may be costly it's a good idea to have an Xray done while she's under GA and at least then you know what you're dealing with. Let us know how you get on.

Sending healing vibes. I really hope Panda pulls through and you get to the bottom of what is causing her problems.

Lots of reiki vibes for your piggy. Hoping everything goes well xx

Strange you should mention x-rays, the idea was passed around but the vet wanted to do bloods- any idea?

If Pandas out get an X-ray. Pitch had tooth root problems it took us 3 vets before we had it done and revealed the problem. Her roots had overgrown wrongly above theroof of her mouth and jaw line and this was only shown on an X-ray. It's always worth ruling everything out.

I am more than happy to have a chat with you on the phone about dental problems, and providing the supportive care needed whilst treatment is taking place. I also offer temporary places here at the Sanctuary to enable piggies to receive treatment from Simon Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic here in Northampton. Simon can usually carry out the dental work without the need for GA and the results we have had have been amazing.

Furryfriends, thank you so much for the offer it is very kind and very much appreciated. Unfortunately I have no way of making that journey, time off work, transport and an unsympathetic OH. Panda is now almost completely dependent on syringe feeding to keep her going and I don't think its fair on her quality of life to continue much longer with this. She went off this morning to have an exploratory check up and hopefully things will turn out ok. If not - small comfort to me and my daughter we tried all we could. If you could pm your number that would be great ( I might need advice when she comes home), see.....I'm being positive now- she will be fine. The vet didn't think her breathing was something to be overly concerned about she said it was in the nasal passages rather than the lungs.. Thanks again Caroline xx

Just got Panda back, its not her teeth its chronic pain in her jaw. When she was under g.a the vet manipulated her jaw and there was discomfort even then. There is a little bit of overgrowth with the roots but not enough to cause any trouble and there is a little bit of a wobble in one of her molars. She has had 2 lots of buprenorphine today and it has made her very tired. Not interested in any food whatsoever, because she's not swallowing very well I'm reluctant to force her. The vet has prescribed her metacam (0.02ml dog) to control the pain and fingers crossed this will work. Thanks for all your kind wishes and F.F extra thanks to you. xx

Awww poor little Panda, I hope the medicine helps her pain & that you are ok too as it's so stressful & upsetting when they're poorly. I hope you get her problems sorted & she gets better soon.

Oh I also hope everything goes well with your little piggy. Just to say I am happy to help with transporting your little piggy as I could be part of a guinea pig train ad I'm about an hour and a half away from Northampton x

I am glad panda came through her GA and is home with you tonight. it sounds like your new vet is more piggy savvy so hopefully Panda will start to improve but i agree with you that it is quality of life that is important. x

Glad you got the g.a over and done with :)
Hope she improves soon. Healing vibes... Fingers and paws crossed from the girls &I. Here's to a full and speedy recovery. x
