My gorgeous Connie is at the vets with a sudden onset of bloat. Yesterday morning she seemed right as rain, even at teatime she seemed fine but I noticed at bedtime that she seemed a little quiet, but nothing I could put my finger on until this morning when she was lethargic, bloated looking and her coat was slightly fluffy looking. She was admitted to the vets first thing this morning. An X-Ray has found no blockages but pockets of gas throughout her abdomen. Our vets are excellent and are starting her treatment there, and later this afternoon I'll go and collect her and carry on at home.
Our piggy room is so quiet without her. I so hope that she pulls through but know the odds aren't great.

Sending big vibes!

Bloat can come on very suddenly out of the blue; good that you have taken her to the vets promptly.

Well done for getting her seen so quickly, I am sure that prompt diagnosis and treatment will have helped immensely. Big hugs and lots of healing vibes sent. Please let us know how she is x

Well done - You have acted quickly and your vets have started treatment - so all fingers and paws are crossed here in the Pebble household that Connie has a really good chance of recovery.

Given it came on so suddenly - perhaps you can cast your mind back to exactly what she has eaten from sunday evening through to yesterday morning....(especially in terms of veggies) ..there could be a specific trigger in there it might be wise to avoid in future.

Once she is through the acute phase, best to keep of fresh veggies and just feed dried herbage/hays for a while and then gradually re-introduce veg one by one, leaving at least 48 hours between each new veggie to monitor for a reaction.

Also - keep alert to check she is eating her FULL quota of pellets/hays and producing her "full quota" of "properly-szied" poos every day.......just in case there is a grumbling underlying problem that caused her guts to misbehave in the first place.

Sending healing vibes

Connie is back home now. She's on a meds regime of metacam, metoclopramide, Zantac and infacol. She looks much brighter than she did this morning and is clearly pleased to be home. I've got everything ready for hand feeding but was told that if I could get her eating little and often that would be a good thing. She'd been hand fed at the vets as she wouldn't eat there. She's just had some parsley and some dandelion and is munching on some Timothy hay so it's encouraging but I know not to get too excited.

Nothing new or different yesterday. And no grass for several days. Vets said to try her on a few herbs and dandelions so have given her a tiny portion (and got a hand lick as thanks). Other than that it's hay and pellets. We are going back for another X-ray on Friday (if she doesn't deteriorate before then). Good news is I've seen her do a normal poo and eat it too.

Good to hear she's looking better! Bloat is so scary - great job getting it sorted so quick! Healing vibes little Connie!

Her coat is smooth and shiny (this morning it was dull and fluffy) and her eyes look more alert too. Still not right but noticeably improved. The OH spotted it instantly too.

I'm so glad to hear that she's back home and things are looking positive.

Excellent news! Well done pretty girl

Hello beautiful Connie :luv: Don't you look all snuggly!

Awwww... she's so cute! Glad she is doing well!
