Healing Wheeks for Holly, please!

I’ll be honest, with some of my older piggies, if everything else has been ruled out, they do seem to develop what I call vanishing pig syndrome towards the end of their lives. Despite eating and drinking well they just lose weight, become thinner and bonier and start to vanish in front of your eyes. It could just be old age. Bless her, I do love old piggies x

Honestly, in its own way that’s comforting. I haven’t had a piggie reach old age for a long time (last three all died young, one had ringworm and died despite us doing our best, another died of pyrometra and I hope you guys remember my little Smudgie-) so it’s been a long since since I’ve experienced old age in a piggie like this. Just doing my best to keep her happy and healthy!

It’s so hard watching them grow old and fade away but I do love their spirit.

It’s been difficult, I’m feeling so helpless right now but at the same time I’m always comforted by how loud she screams for veg when I enter the room! I’m working today (key-worker) so I’ll try sweet potato as well
 
Sounds like you’ve checked everything, what a brilliant owner you are! She’s so gorgeous :love:
My Jess is very teeny at 7, around 720g atm which goes up and down a little, I’ve worried a lot about it but the last couple of months but I think that’s just her now! I’m happy if she’s happy!
If the hair loss etc isn’t bothering her and she seems happy and eating try not to worry too much, sounds like you and the vet have been really thorough with your health checks! x
 
It sounds like you are doing all you can, and as has been said it could be her age. Peanut was 5 in October, he has been slowly losing weight over the last year and is now very bony over his hips and spine. He had 2 abcesses last year, an operation and lost his life long cage mate which didn't help but I'm sure most of it is down to his age. I've just been watching him in the garden he's eating lots of grass and has done a couple of little popcorns. I hope it is Holly's age catching up and you will have a long time with her yet. Peanut likes a treat of porridge oats 2 or 3 times a week which helps to keep his weight on.

Holly has been running around in the grass today and screeching for food! She’s in very high spirits. We think for now we’ll boost her with the critical care and just hope for the best, but me and the vet have agreed it is probably old age. She’s very bony on her back and ribs, super teeny but always ready for more food! She’s also getting alfalfa king hay in the evenings now to give her a helping hand :)
 
Small little Holly update - and a help request, please!

despite my best efforts and she’s eating normally, she’s dropped to 566g. She’s eating on her own, I’m just wondering how much CC I should be getting into her a day at the moment to stop this getting any worse. Very well in herself (vet said so to!) and might be a case of preparing ourselves but you know what I’m like, I’m not letting her get any worse without one heck of a fight! At the moment she’s been given 15ml daily to boost her but clearly needs more. Any ideas, please? I’m scared in case I miss calculate-
